This was my 11th marathon and I have to say, one of my favorites. It’s a big one, which means lots of energy. You’re pretty packed for at least six miles, but then it thins out although you are always surrounded by lots of people. There is GREAT crowd support and there is something about all of the Marines out on the course at the aid stations and providing support that is incredible. You get great views of the city. The Blue Mile, in which there are pictures of fallen Marines, is emotional.
We stayed in Alexandria and the start was easily accessible by Metro. It’s a bit of a walk to the start line that includes going through security, but not a big deal.
I truly adored this race. It’s been over a week and I’m still riding the marathon high from it!
