The Madison Marathon loops you around scenic Lake Monona, then through The University of Wisconsin campus. It was a fun and challenging course in that the three biggest hills are all between miles 16 and 23. The heavy winds added another wrinkle to the course difficulty. There were many gracious volunteers, and the fan support gave me energy. I came to appreciate the large font name on my bib, because spectators could see my name and cheer me on personally. The expo was smooth with photo ops and swag booths aplenty.
The only reason this race does not get five stars from me is because of the lack of restrooms on the course. Due to long lines at every porta-potty, I had to hold my bladder until about mile 11, at which point I was forced to stand in line for several minutes in order to use one.
