My Raves

Starting out, the website for the race stated that the race organizers were very experience and rated as the best… stating that they are the same organizers of the BCS Marathon (Scott and White). From the get go, the packet pickup seemed very poorly organized. With 2 more poster boards placed at the stairs and top of stairs with arrow, which is normal for the other 100 races I have ran, nobody would have paused and try to figure out where to go. The “EXPO” was a small single table in a large empty room. Stated from website “This race is synonymous with the word swag!” Very unusual with a shirt and a finisher metal, plus hat for half finishers. Packet included a bag to hold bib and single coupon.
Race did not have a place to store belonging. It was 55F so dozens of sweaters and other prerace items were left on ground around start line. Course was ok, but 1 or 2 signs where the run splits in 2 directions makes more sense.
Finish line was on Kyle Field. I have finished races a few times here but this time was weird. Friends showing up for support can only be in the stands at south side of field. They are not allowed anywhere else. The finish line is one the far north side of field. Only thing to drink at finish is gatorade. I walked around the field to talk to my friend in the stands and security person come up to me and says I cant talk and must exit immediately. To be clear, we are not ON the field, but the surrounding track. There are very few people; no crowd. Again, this has never happened at any other race finished on the field.
Quote “You can expect a food and beer spread that beats any large marathon in Texas!” It was sausage on a stick and a pretzel for a spread.
Quote “You will use this glass when you choose from up to 10(!) different craft beers we will have on site…” It was 3 kinds of Karbachs and the server looked at me like I was stupid when I put the glass on the table to use it. Grabbed the plastic cup next to the glass I just tried to give her. Was weird.
I go to check my time (I should have placed 3rd in age group) and my number and name did not register. I do admit that I signed up the day before because I was watching weather and I live a mile away. I have never had my chip not read as I regularly wait for till weather looks good for a race (within a few days of race).
I have no problems with not having special expo, 10+ craft beers, “sway” or a food spread (I dont want to really drink or eat after run, plus I’m sweaty and it’s 55F and I dont have a jacket). BUT all these were all listed as part of the race. I have ran many university society and fundraising races and even the smallest ones were better organized as a whole than is race. The description of race extras is just flat out inaccurate and I would say an intentional lie.
