Hard downhill with banked corners all on road and concrete path. I had to walk more than 12 times the last 6-7 miles (never walked in race before except in trail races with steep trails)! Way harder than you’d expect since it’s mostly downhill out of mountains. Beautiful scenery first 5-8 miles. Well organized race and Ft Collins was a wonderful place to spend a weekend—good restaurants, great breweries, friendly people—fun! If you’re big into marathons, this race worth notching but my legs would die if I told them to do it again.

Rained like mad the day and night before so huge chunks of mud clung to our shoes. Views obscured by fog due to inclement weather. Challenging, for sure. I’d have to do on a sunny day to really say whether vertical challenge and looooong downhill slog worth it. Brazen always does GREAT job with organization, email updates, medals, shirts and post race hydration/nutrition. I’ve done multiple brazen races. Such nice people!

Tough, tough race for an aging “flat lander” not acclimated to altitude, but super fun challenge. Not doing it again this year but thinking about returning in 2019. Truly an iconic trail marathon that I will never forget.
