The prerace dinner provided was wonderful – potatoes, pasta, red sauce, broccoli, dessert, etc. The race director, Haley is like a tanned comet. I think I ran into her five times. She was everywhere. The students that helped manage the race were friendly and smart. The racecourse could be simplified. I lost several minutes by taking the wrong turn. City is wonderful. We loved the Capitol building, the adjacent museum and the Capitol river walk. The downtown restaurants all had wonderful food. My wife and I were both very happy with our four days in Charleston, WV.

Overall, I enjoyed the run. One thing that bothered me was the condition of the course. I saw two runners fall down after they hit a speed bump. These bumps should be identified with tape. Also, potholes should be fixed or marked with paint. The race planners charge a heavy fee. They should focus on making the course safe. The expo was a waste of time. There were plenty of water stations. Not enough toilets at the start. Had some good food in Baton Rouge.

We had to pick up our bibs in Gulfport. Why not in Biloxi? Meaningless expo. Nothing there. Waste of my time and gas. Too few porta-potties at start line. Had to wait over 20 minutes. Ridiculous! Cars driving fast in the same direction as runners. Did not feel safe. Race ended with having to climb up an interstate ramp. Last mile could be much better. Finish in stadium was nice. Food and drinks were good. Would not do it again.

The half marathon started over 20 minutes late. The first water station was over three and a half miles away. Too far. There were several holes in the road. Saw two people fall. These holes should be filled. Hillier than I expected. The scenery was nice especially along the boardwalk and paths along the bay. The medal, that is, the woodal is made out of wood. Something different. Not much going on at the package pickup. Boring.

The entire staff at the expo were friendly and knowledgeable. I really like the windbreaker type jacket I got. The course was flat. The scenery consisted mostly of neighborhoods with lots of beautiful trees. Lots of people out cheering the runners. Water station volunteers were not prepared. Had to wait for water at two stops. Mileage markers were missing. I wish we had also run on some country roads. Staggering runners at the start would prevent the congestion. The city of Fargo was enjoyable. Went to the zoo, visitor’s center and botanical gardens. Downtown was also enjoyable. The city was clean and the people very friendly.
