The expo was nice and big for a marathon of this size. The course is flat, not scenic – going from one neighborhood to another, hitting downtown twice. I ran with my own hydration because the stations were spaced out way too much for the way I sweat. The half marathoners started 15 minutes after the marathon start, however I found myself bobbing & weaving through back of the pack half marathoners miles 7-10. I asked course volunteers twice if I was still on the marathon course because it really threw me off. They could add more stations, and design the course to where the half & full start at the same time and split at a certain point.

In ran this marathon in 2025. I was so happy to just finish this one. It rained most of the time and got cooler from the start to finish. The race advertised as 50% asphalt and 50% gravel trails. I’d say it was more like 65% gravel trails. It had already been raining pretty much nonstop for two days before the race, so the trails were in bad shape in a lot of places – puddles, mud, rocks, etc. The mostly flat course is very beautiful taking you through valleys in the Alps in the Allgau region of Bavaria, Germany. However it was hard to really take in the scenery because I was constantly looking down to watch my step on the gravel trails. The hydration stations were every 5K, a few stations only had water & no sports drink. The sports drink was not replenishing my electrolytes & sodium much, and my performance began to suffer just over the halfway point. My performance decreased significantly after 20 miles, and I really pushed myself to finish the last 4 miles, finishing in 4:06. If you run this race I’d definitely take your own hydration, pray for good weather, and hope the trails are in better condition.

Boise Marathon! Lucky #13! This was my 13th Marathon, 10th state, and now my FASTEST MARATHON! Boise Marathon is a very well organized small race. The packet pickup was quick & easy, just your bib & a t-shirt. I stayed downtown & got around on a lime scooter. Uber is super cheap here too, no need to rent a car. Easy Uber to the start. There was a bag check & plenty of porta potties. At the start the temps were in the 40s, but it warmed up nicely as the sun came over the mountains and got up to 60F. The course was easy, flat, and scenic. It’s an out and back course that starts in a park near downtown, out of the city along the Boise River into a canyon, and back. Aid stations were every 2 miles stocked with water & Gatorade. I’m pretty sure the station in the canyon had Kool-Aid 😂 Not all the stations had a porta potty. I used one and went in the bushes a couple of times. The lady I paced off of went in the bush one time too 🤭👍🏿 At the finish they had water, bananas, and oranges. Easy Uber back to my hotel after I finished.
