-A big hill around Mile 6 brings you the reward of an epic downhill around Mile 10–it felt like I was flying! Overall, this course was engaging and fun.
-Logistics were a breeze: pre-race communication, packet pickup, the expo, and race-day organization was easy, consistent, and very accommodating.
-The fastest half pace group this year was for 1:40, so be prepared to follow your own pace plan if you feel like pushing for something faster.

-This local race gives you the chance to traverse some of the most beautiful, mountainous scenery that a road race can offer. Mostly appealing to local runners, Governor’s Cup offers a full and half marathon experience.
-The race format is a Point A to B, which is a fun format for making sure you get to see a lot of unique scenery.
-Most of the half marathon, leading up to Helena, is run on a highway service road–while this isn’t necessarily “scenic,” everything surrounding you is! So enjoy the clear sky and wooded mountain terrain.
-Since it’s a relatively small race, don’t count on purchasing last-minute items (like fueling options) at the expo/packet pickup.

-A well-conducted race for Houston-area runners.
-Loved the finish line swag this year!
-Overall, this course is navigable & easy to run. Having a hairpin turn in a marathon course is not ideal, but it’s also not the worst thing.
-Race day logistics and staging were smooth & optimal!

-This race, which comes every fall, is a great way to test out your fitness for fall racing. If you’re brave enough to sweat through training in the summer, it’s also a great motivation to make it through the Houston heat.
-Free group training runs months prior to the race are a great option for first-time racers or those who enjoy running with a community!
-Day-of logistics are great: bike valet, ample space to warm up / hang out before the race, and well-indicated signage take the logistical stress out of race day.
-Don’t be nervous about the Allen Parkway Hills at the end of the half–you’re sure to have plenty of fans there on the parkway, cheering you on!
-Be prepared, if it’s a sunny day, to finish racing into the sunrise. Sunglasses are helpful!
-The post-race celebration is great–just get in line quickly for pancakes & beer or you may be waiting a while 🙂
