The Dirt Dash is an adventure that seamlessly blends the beauty of nature with the thrill of trail running. This is the same race you know and love but under new management with Palmetto Ultras.
Nestled within the heart of Johns Island, this race invites participants to embark on a journey through lush landscapes, winding trails, and breathtaking scenery that define the Lowcountry’s charm. The race begins at the Johns Island County Park, where runners will find themselves surrounded by ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss. The course is designed to challenge participants with a mix of terrains, from well-groomed paths through open meadows to wooded trails.
The race features various distances to cater to all levels of runners from beginners seeking a scenic challenge to seasoned trail runners aiming to test their limits.
The Dirt Dash isn’t just a race; it’s a celebration of athleticism, nature, and community. With its unique blend of trails and scenic beauty, this race promises an unforgettable experience for all those who lace up their trail shoes.
The Course
The course is a beautiful 3.3ish mile loop with a mix of wide open cross country type trails, single/double track trails, and a tiny bit of a grassy trail.
If you’re running the 5k you will run 1 loop
If you’re running the 10k you will run 2 loops
If you’re running the half marathon you will run 4 loops
If you’re running the marathon you will run 8 loops
A looped course means you don’t have to carry as much fluid/nutrition with you because you’ll be back at the start/finish line and the fully stocked aid station every 3.3 miles.
You are welcome to drop nutrition/fluids/gear off near the aid station in the designated drop bag area so you can restock in between loops. We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Basic dirt trail run. Not complicated. Flat, no hills. No mile markers, no cheering adoring fans. It’s just you and the forest (and music if you brought your iPod). As a slow runner, I was basically running alone most of the time. My GPS watch didn’t register so I didn’t know how far along I was, which made it mentally challenging to keep going. Worth doing this race at least once.
