The Gandy Dancer Trail is a flat and fast limestone surface that should allow you a great chance at a PR. Starting at the Luck Fire Department, you will head north on the trail for about 6.55miles, just past Frederic, WI, then turn around and head home. With four aid stations along the length of the course, you will have plenty of opportunities to stay hydrated, fueled, and cheered on as you enjoy the fall colors. Those of you who choose to run the Full Marathon will test your grit as you return to the start/finish line and then turn right back around for another round!
4-Person Marathon Relay: Relay teammates will be able to alternate at the start/finish line in Luck and at the 6.55-mile turnaround point in Frederic.
The 5k will also start at the Luck Fire Department and head north on the trail. Your turnaround point will have an aid station.
Kids 1-mile Fun Run: PowerUp St. Croix Valley is hosting a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run! Kids will start at the Luck Fire Department and head south on the trail for a half mile, turn around and head back to the station. All kids who race will receive a race bib and medal!
No dogs or strollers allowed on the course. Headphones are allowed, but are discouraged. It is the participant’s responsibility to make sure they do not impair their hearing so they can detect other participants and potential hazards.
The 2023 Gandy Dancer Trail Marathon is NOT a Boston Qualifier.
There is no time limit for the Full Marathon. However, anyone finishing over 6 hours may not receive an official time from the race company, and the course may no longer be supported after 6 hours. There will still be volunteers at the finish line to congratulate you and give you your medal.

This small town puts on a big to do with this one. I haven’t missed a year yet! It is run on the Gandy Dancer Trail from Luck, WI to Frederic, WI & back. There are multiple distances including a full marathon, a marathon relay, the half & a 5k. This trail is an old railroad bed, so it is nice & flat. All monies raised support the local volunteer fire department. There are many aid stations & a lot of chances for your friends & family to cheer you on. This race has been happening for ten years & is still my favorite one.
Great Event for a Great Cause

This was my first ever half marathon and I had no clue what to expect. I had ran numerous 5k and 10ks prior to this, but never a half. I loved that it benefitted the town’s fire department and that it went to such deserving folks!
I have spent plenty of time on this trail in the past, and it is a smooth and flat course on a well maintained trail. I’d argue it’s one of the best pedestrian walking/biking trails in the state! The views are to die for, and the people on the trail are always super upbeat and friendly.
Overall I couldn’t have asked for better ammenities and aid stations. There were plenty of water stations and restrooms along the way. There was also a marathon going on at the same time that started earlier that morning. It was a drizzly day, but being a native Midwestern person I didn’t mind. There were lots of friendly folks at different mile markers cheering the runners along, which was very motivational! They also had a nice meal afterwards at the fire hall, but I didn’t spend too much time at that.
I will definitely sign up for this race again! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience 🙂 My medal looks great, and I love the shirt as well. It’s definitely a prized possession of mine.
