Smith Rock Ascent Terrebonne, OR   DISCONTINUED

After all kinds of adjustments to the 2023 Smith Rock Ascent to accommodate the insane popularity of the state park, and the migrating deer, we are so extremely disappointed to say that we are not able to put on this race in 2024. This was one of our original races, starting in 2013, and had grown to be our most popular event in terms of number of runners.

The only option we had was a July date. Given the heat at that time of year, it is too unsafe to host a race here at that time. If we are given the opportunity to bring this back in the future, you better believe we will, in a heartbeat. Smith Rock Ascent is a classic and we want to continue to give runners from around the country the Go Beyond Racing experience at this stunning venue.

The Smith Rock Ascent races have become so popular, and it is easy to see why. You get to spend the weekend at one of the most scenic places in Oregon – Smith Rock State Park. Beginning in 2019, the event spans the whole weekend, with a 50K on Saturday and the 15-Mile and 4-Mile races on Sunday. There are kids fun runs on both days. There’s a trail race distance for everyone.

The trails in and around the state park provide stunning views of the rock faces where you’ll see climbers scaling the tall walls, as well as vistas of the Three Sisters and Mt. Jefferson. You’ll get up high in all three races, where you see the grasslands around you. This race is a treat for your eyes, and for your legs.

There are no crew access locations for any of the race distances. Spectators can cheer for their runners at the start/finish area.

Pacers are not allowed in any of the events.

The 50K lollipop style course that involves ~4800 ft of elevation gain has amazing views of the Cascade mountains, the sheer rock faces at Smith Rock State Park and the unique beauty of the grasslands. 75% of the course is on sweet single-track trails. There are 4 fully stocked aid stations.

There is a cut-off at the final aid station (#4). All racers must leave this aid station by 3:00 pm. This race is on Saturday.

The 15-mile race quickly rises above the dramatic cliffs in one of Oregon’s most scenic state parks. With over 3,000 vertical gain, the route ascends to the top of Gray Butte with panoramic views of central Oregon and the Three Sisters. Then your reward, an almost uninterrupted descent with spectacular views of the sheer rock faces that make Smith Rock State Park a mecca for climbers.

There is a cut-off at the final aid station (#2). All racers must leave this aid station by 11:30 a.m. This race is on Sunday.

4-mile trail race! For those who don’t want to go 15 miles or 50K, but still want incredible views and sweet single-track, then this is the option. It’s not flat – you will earn your views. This race is on Sunday.
