I found this race online while searching for races on my 50 states journey. The race offered day of packet pick up which went very smoothly. They offered gear check too (bring your own bag). The race had individual and group costume contests before the start. The contests started and finished on time which was impressive. I felt like around 30 percent (or more) ran in costume which added to the vibe of the race. There were also plenty of porta potties at the start. The race starts and finishes at the same spot which was a short walk from the Lincoln Park Zoo.
The course was a simple out and back along the shoreline of the lake. The course was a public paved walking/biking trail which was big enough for the runners to share with others who happened to be out that morning. I got to see the city scape of downtown along with waves, sand, sailboats, grass and trees. On the way out the wind was in our faces. On the way back it was at our backs. My GPS was true to the course markers. There were four well manned aid stations that offered water and Gatorade.
The finish area had chips, apples, donut holes, water, and apple cider. Runners got a medal and a long sleeve tech shirt. Each race bib had a beer ticket that could be redeemed at a local sports bar which was a short walk from the event. Once we arrived at the Tin Lizzie we were able to use our beer tickets for any beer, cider or seltzer they had on tap. There was plenty of seating for runners to sit back relax. I really enjoyed the race and would recommend it to others. The video attached with this report shows my view of running the half in 2025.
