Wissahickon Valley park is the crown jewel of the Philadelphia park system. It is over 2000 acres in size and features more than 50 miles of trails. The park combines natural beauty and history, with many historic buildings and bridges located within the park. Philadelphia trail runners have embraced the park for many years for their training runs, due to its natural beauty and extensive trail network, but there hasn’t been a long distance trail race in recent memory. Let’s celebrate Philadelphia trails by running the Philadelphia Trail Marathon and Half at the Wissahickon Valley Park. Over 600 runners have registered for the race in the past 2 years, and we are expecting a large field for the return to Wissahickon Valley. The 13.1 course will be 90% plus single track trail at the Wissahickon. Many rolling hills and some technical sections with rocks and roots. Need to be a bit gritty to get this done :-). Awards will be given out as you cross the finish line. There will be live music at the finish and a pizza party.

This race is twenty odd minutes from downtown Philly, which is a bonus for an out of towner since no rental car is required. Wissahickon Valley Park is a gem of a spot! The race organizers sent excellent pre-race information. The course route is a half marathon, full marathon runners do two loops. The course has wonderful variety, plenty of hills, but nothing too strenuous. Aid stations were well situated by kind volunteers.
A positive experience all round, I’d run it again!
They are serious about those hills
