Vibrant and Vivacious Portuguese Coast
With its mild climate and 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, Portugal has long been a prime destination for family holidays. Thanks to a bumper IRONMAN day, including an IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 distance event, athletes can experience the best Cascais has to offer, starting with a swim in the most spectacular bay in Portugal, with an emotional start at sunrise, surrounded by supporters. A unique feature of a loop in a F1 circuit will boost your power through a stunning race course. A vibrant Triathlon celebration, over one of the most stunning courses ever designed for a Triathlon. Follow up your race with a few days in Lisbon to complete your Portuguese adventure by the Ocean.
Swim
The one-loop 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim starts at Ribeira Beach in Cascais. Known for its huge crowds lining the shore, the course takes athletes around the protected bay of the village and all the way to the Fortaleza at Clube Naval. In October the water temperature varies between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius (62.6 and 66.2 degrees Fahrenheit).
Bike
The 90 km one-loop bike course offers breathtaking views of the Portuguese Riviera, Guincho Beach, and the wonderful natural park of Sintra–Cascais, which as a result of the improvements made to the route, will allow the athletes to pedal on roads that boast rare scenic beauty. A ride through the Guincho road, and by the GUincho Beach leads to Malveira and Serra de Sintra by the Blue Lagoon, towards the Estoril Formula 1 Circuit. Athletes get to enjoy smoother roads that take you all the way to the turning point in Lisbon, passing by some of the icons of the Portuguese capital, such as the Tower of Belém, the Jerónimos Monastery, and even under the 25th of April Bridge. The athletes will also enjoy a unique feature unlike any other IRONMAN event: a lap around the Estoril Formula 1 circuit.
Run
The 2 loop HOKA run course starts in Cascais, then follows the Guincho road along the coast to Cabo Raso and returns to the heart of Cascais. A challenging course, especially on a windy day. This run course is known for its awesome spectator support, especially with the passage in Marina de Cascais, with cheers that will take you all the way to the finish line.
