The course difficulty here is obviously the fact that it’s an August race in Texas. It was hot. Otherwise, the course is almost completely flat and very easy. There was great signage AND people directing runners at every fork, split off, or turn around.

The race started late, but it seems like most races I’ve done at White Rock Lake have started late, so it could be that this is more an issue with the lake security team than with the race producers.

Plenty of water and gatorade. I don’t know what the deal was but the first few water stops had HOT water – like it had been sitting out all night and risen to 85/90 degrees – but after that all the water was cold. The refreshments after the race could have been better. It looked like there were quite a few options at one point but they were largely consumed by the 5k and 10k participants. I finished at the early part of the half, but some vendors were already packing up to go home. I’d imagine the people who took over 2 hours to finish the half crossed the finish to a line of empty tents!

Also, I somehow ordered the incorrect shirt size and they said they have a no exchange policy. Most races will let you exchange it on the day of the race, but they said they order tightly. So double check your size when you order!

In any case, great race production. I love the size of these races… not too small, not too big. This one was well staffed and well run. I would do it again.

This was almost a last minute registration for me. Used this event to Do my schedules 14 miler in training for Chicago.
This run is at Norbuck Park and is mostly run on the Whiterock Lake Trail system (paved). Many other events are run from this park and run on the trail. This was my third on the same route. Parking is always an issue if you don’t get there early. There were three distances, 5K, 10K, and Half marathon. All three start and finish at the same spot. It is an out and back course. Almost flat other than a few small inclines that are almost a non factor. The 10K and Half started together and the 5K started about 15 minutes later. Course had a lot of shade but as the name states it was HOT. You want to pre-hydrate and not pass a water stop. There were plenary of water stops with water, sports drink, and some had cold wet towels. Great volunteers. Views of the lake, parks, and homes are the scenery. This is a popular trail so it was packed with others out getting their morning recreation. The ringing of the bike bells and calls of on your left were heard on most of the route. This race had pacers in the half at five minute intervals and that was nice. I hung with the 1:55 pacers for the first half to keep me from running beyond my desired pace. Nice event perk. Finishers got a nice medal, same to all no matter the distance. Ice cold water was also provided as well as cold towels, popsicles, and lots of vendors handing out snacks, drinks, and other items. Awards were given to top 3 in various age categories.
Great even and I would run again if my schedule allows.
