The Canal Corridor 100 Mile Endurance course runs through existing portions of the exceptionally beautiful Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Cleveland, Akron, and Canton, Ohio. The course is FAST, FLAT, and SCENIC suitable for anyone looking to complete their first 100 miler or a seasoned veteran who is going after the 100 miles PR. Aid stations are staffed by experienced ultra runners in Northeast Ohio who will make sure runners receive proper aid and care. Profits from this event will be donated to the Conservancy for the Cuyahoga National Park, Canalway Partners and the Ohio and Erie Canal Coalition, non-profit organizations that oversee and help maintain the trail systems in Northeast Ohio.
Traditionally, the start/finish line is at Missing Falls Brewery in downtown Akron, OH. The course runs along The Towpath Trail following the Ohio & Erie Canalway. The Towpath is a crushed limestone trail that occasionally yields to asphalt or concrete walkway. The start is in downtown Akron, Ohio and travels south on the Towpath to Ernie’s Bike Shop in Massillon, approximately 27 miles, then returns north. You can obtain aid from the start/finish line area on your way to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to Lock 29, Ohio before turning around at approximately 78 miles at Canal Exploration Center to return to Akron, OH. Elevation gain over the entirety of the course is 807 feet.
For 2024, there may finally be an option to conduct a point-to-point race on the Towpath trail (with a very short out & back between Navarre and Zoar Village to start) depending on permitting through the CVNP and Cleveland Metroparks. If this dream become a reality, there will be a bus from Tower City in Cleveland to the start line.
