This was the 36th running of The Hills Are Alive, and my fourth attempt. The course follows horse back riding trails through Rolling Hills with a lot of ups and downs. Most of the surface is dirt with some asphalt. Dusty. If you are looking for a PR do not run this race! But, if you want to test yourself against some tough hills and challenging terrain it’s well worth running.
The race has turned into a “fun run” recently, so there is no chip timing or results. Swag included a t-shirt and medal. Good water-station support if you need it, and enthusiastic volunteers. There was a super local vibe and I bet most of the runners lived nearby. When we lined up to start, the emcee shouted, “Ready, set, go!” And that was it.
Entry fee was $35.00 (on-line). Water and fruit at the finish line. Plenty of parking at the start area and overall a well run if intimate event.
