This is a fun marathon relay to do with your friends. 5 legs of approximately 5.4 miles. It’s about 50% trail and 50% road through Griffith Park, which is scenic enough. The elevation gain is pretty typical for trail races and will definitely be more challenging than flat road races if that’s all you are used to. I was the anchor so it got pretty hot by the time I was out there. If you have trouble with heat, definitely make sure you run one of the earlier legs. The atmosphere is pretty good. A lot of running clubs come out with teams and basically have a picnic.

This is a great team race. It is a relay marathon, so 5 member teams take turns running a 5.3 mile course. (There is also an individual division.) The course is a difficult trail loop – difficult because of the steep hill in the first 2 miles. But it is not technical; the course is mostly a wide fire road. The first hill starts right away and gets steeper as you go. It peaks around mile 2 then there are some rolling hills for 2 miles. There is a final bump to mile 4 followed by a downhill run to the end. The finish line and transition area was a great big party with everyone either nervous as they waited, or exhilarated because they had finished. It’s the only race I’ve been to where people didn’t seem to want to leave afterwards. The race was very well organized with a good finish line and two support stations along the course. It was very well marked so I was never worried about getting off course. I would strongly suggest cutting every corner as tight as possible. That seems like an obvious strategy but not many people seemed to be aware of it. The T shirt was a very nice one and the medal was great. The only downside was that once the runners head out you can’t see them until they get back.

Good competition and I ran anchor leg. Had live DJ and tents for massage, food, drinks. Awesome relay medals and unique. Course for relay is 5.2 miles and first 1.4 is very hilly and all down hill until last 400 meters to finish which is incline. Officially timed with chip on baton that you carry and pass to each runner. 5 legs per team. Very cool race, hard as heck and was hot but worth it, will be doing it again next year to defend the title!
