When I hear that a race is organised for the first time, I often have sentiments about the expo, road closures, supply… But all that was ran perfectly smooth. I won my entry at the expo for Barcelona Half two months prior to the race otherwise I probably would not have gone but it was a perfect sunny beach, good food and run weekend getaway experience. Expo, start and finish were near the marina of Santa Eularia and the race is one big loop out in southwest direction to Ibiza City and back, partially using the same asphalt country roads twice which is of course easier to run the supply stations (every 5k/ 3 miles). I was surprised to see more than just a few spectators, music boxes and live bands. There are two parts of the track with a long steady elevation about 100m/ 300 feet each time but I underestimated the “burning” of incline in my only fourth full marathon. I got slower aka really hit the wall towards the end but still finished at 3:14h (was hoping for a BQ / sub3:10h). I d definitely recommend the race if you want to get a pre season Ibiza getaway. Sangria, beer at the finish and a free entrance to Pacha Club (THE club institution of the island) were included. And I was told free photos, but I three days post race I haven’t seen them yet.
