Run Hot, Party Cool! Share the sights and sounds with family and friends as you join us for the 5K run of the summer! The Life Time Torchlight Minneapolis 5K invites you to break a sweat and have a good time doing it. The party truly starts the minute you cross the start line and continues well after you cross the finish line with our post-race race entertainment and cool refreshments. Come one, come all for an unforgettable night where you will truly experience the Twin Cities magic!
The Life Time Torchlight 5K steps off from the Minneapolis Convention Center in downtown Minneapolis. You’ll run the newly minted Aquatennial CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade route along 2nd Avenue where you’ll pass through thousands of spectators and Minneapolis’ notable downtown sites, with an up close and personal view of the Minneapolis skyline. As you enter the Historic Mill District via South 2nd Street, the course takes a turn on Portland Avenue leading to W. River Parkway offering beautiful views of the Gold Medal Park, Mill Ruins Park, the historic Stone Arch Bridge and Saint Anthony Falls. You’ll cross the mighty Mississippi River at Plymouth Avenue Bridge before heading into the Finish Line at Boom Island Park where you’ll be greated by the famous Life Time Torchlight Finish Festival where the Minneapolis skyline comes to life as the sun sets.
The race will start at 7:30 PM utilizing a wave start with the USATF – Minnesota 5K Championship participants leading the way. Additional waves will be released after a short break between waves. The wave start is utilized to ensure safety on the course and to mitigate athletes being held on course due to the light rail.

This is a fun race but it is a big one , a lot of people and it was extremely hot and humid this year. The race goes well though, it goes pretty smooth. It is a lot of fun to run the parade route before the Torchlight parade, a lot of people on the course cheering you on. The after party is awesome with a lot of swag and freebies from vendors. The food line is ridiculously long but they did not run out this year. T-shirt, glow in the dark finshers medal, pizza and two beers – well worth melting on the course! 🙂
