Come to Calistoga for the Napa Valley Endurance Run, four races that start in Downtown Calistoga and take you through glorious Robert Louis Stevenson State Park and as far as the top of Mt. St. Helena. Napa Valley Endurance Run is as close as you’ll come to a mountain race in California and the 50k is often talked about as the hardest race around. So, don’t let the name fool you — this is a challenging, bucket-list race that rollicks across the Palisades on rarely run trails, not a day at the spa. (UTMB Note:This is a UTMB Index Race for the 50k, 35k and half marathon.)
No doubt about it — these are challenging runs. Starting at the trailhead right off of the Silverado Trail, Napa Valley Endurance Run takes you up the Oat Hill Mine Trail, which is a long, grinding fireroad. At the top, you’ll turn onto the Palisades Trail, which is a very technical trail with stunning views. Midway is the Palisades Aid Station which we deliver by ATV to the middle of the mountain. You’ll be shocked it’s there. The half marathon turns around here. 50k and 35k runners proceed on to Lasky Point, Table Rock, and onto Highway 29, where the 35k turns around. 50k runners continue on single track which gives way to fire road on the pleasant ascent of Mount St. Helena Trail.
While aid is plentiful, limited access to the Palisades Trail means that there are up to 6 miles between stations. We recommend all runners carry 40oz of water and additional nutrition. Gels will be available at the start.
