We ran this race on our Thanksgiving trip to Bend. Bend has two Turkey Trots. One is run by the local running store, one is run by the Boys & Girls Club and this is the one we ran – it was much closer to our Airbnb.
It was a lovely event. We chose to do packet pick-up the day before in a local sports/outdoors shop, we got $10 off to spend there, some freebies and a bottle of free kombucha! Race shirts were $10 extra – I chose to buy one and I like it, it’s a nice souvenir.
Race day was cold but there was free coffee and hot chocolate (and bananas and bagels) at the start which was much appreciated. The course was more or less flat and was very pretty as it wound up and down the river. No medals at the end but you could immediately get a print-out of your time.
One thing to note – there’s no chip-time. When you finish, they tear off part of your bib and scan it. Thus all our times were a few seconds slower than our garmins. Not a biggie for us, as this was purely for fun, but worth knowing if you’re actually racing. All in all, this was a really fun event that we enjoyed doing.
Lovely community event
