First let me say it as most benefits a good cause so this review is for the event.
It was low cost and that is always welcome.
This was the first year they had the half marathon distance which was my event.
The race packet included a shirt, a bottle of honey, a free tea and a free sandwich from two chain stores.
Race Day.
Small crowd, bottle water was available.
The run itself. The course was through the local neighborhood, some of which was nice older homes but other areas were not in great repair and you ran in a few alleys. There were also times you crossed roads with no one there to stop traffic so it was runner beware but it was little to no traffic but you still had to be more aware of your surroundings. There were also times you were running and the cars were right beside you. One time i had to get off the pavement to let two cars pass each other. LOTS of turns and the only course markers were the small vinyl blue arrows on the road and volunteers pointing the way so if you were not looking you missed them.Then there was also some volunteers that seemed not happy to be out there and said nothing as i missed a turn on the course somewhere at mile 8. Thus I did not finish as when i realized I was off course i just gave up and went back to the car and called it a day as missing the turn and just getting over cold I ended up doing ten miles that day. Most of them were great but a few just stood there as you passed. I appreciate them as I have volunteered for run myself. Finish you got a bottle of water and that was it. Pretty low budget
(thus the low entry fee). So if you are looking just to get in your 13 miles for your winter marathon training and want to race this is good for that. If you are looking for an exciting and motivating event, this isnt it. They also had a 5k. I think maybe this the first year adding the half marathon that they might of bit off a bit more then they could handle.
Once again great cause for the money but I will not be running this event again. Too many options for not much more money with more bang for the buck.
