I usually have a lot of fun doing any race in the UK. The Hackney half was no different. First time sponsored by Virgin Sports, the Virgin Everything owner Richard Branson came himself to fire the start gun (confetti bomb). About 12,000 runners were doing a big loop through East London suburbs to start and finish in Hackney Marshs (a park) where the running village was set up. The course was flat and mostly on roads.
Dj, lots of food, live art, massage and free (!) hair cuts/ bear trim from a barber shop were to be found at the runners village. There were various pacers to help you reach your time goal and a lot of spectators. A goodie bag, medal and finisher shirt at the end. With the virgin sports app all runners were trackable and free photos of the race – one cannot ask for more…
