The Ottawa marathon is so well organized. Wave starts mean that you didn’t have to trip over other runners for the first couple of kms. It can be (and was) hot, but there were plenty of water stations, about 6 misting stations, and 3 stations handing out wet towels. There was crowd support pretty much the entire route. There were some rolling hills but nothing too daunting. The race shirts and medals were both nice.

All in all – a great race.

I travelled from Canada to run the Geneva marathon. There were a lot of great things about this race. The expo was in a tent at the finishing area (right down town) and the start line was at a subway station, so it was easy to access. The route was rolling hills and scenic – the middle portion was quiet but pretty (fields and small villages) with mountains in the background. The course then came back into the city, along the shore of Lake Geneva, with the finish line on the Pont du Mont Blanc.

Unfortunately, it was hot. The marathon didn’t start until 9:45 am and there were only 2 water stations in the first 10 km. Had I known, I would probably have brought an hydration pack with me. Anyway, I got dehydrated and fell at 33 km. I must say that the volunteers and medics were great, but wasn’t the result I wanted! I called it a very long, hot training run – enjoyed the rest of my vacation in Geneva – and then successfully ran the Ottawa marathon two weeks later.

October weather in Toronto can be anything – but this year it was sunny, no wind and 8 Celsius at the start line. I also ran this race in 2016 when it was muggy and humid. The course is flat – a few hills in the second half but nothing difficult.

This is a well organized race – lots of volunteers – water tables were long enough to avoid crashing into people – great cheering stations – well set up finish area etc. I stayed at a hotel right on the start line which obviously makes for a stress free pre race experience.

The half and full marathon start together so it is crowded for the first couple of km, although the spaced out corral start times help. You do notice the decrease in energy when the half marathoners turn off at the 20 km mark.

My only issue was that there was a section where we ran underneath the Gardiner’s expressway for a few hundred meters. My Garmin GPS went crazy (my map after the race shows the signal bouncing all over the place). Bottom line, my watch suddenly recorded more than an extra km which really messed up my pace. Fortunately I attached myself to a pace bunny shortly after that and ran with him until close to the end of the race when I was too tired to care about my pace anyway!

All in all this is great race. I would definitely recommend it.

This was my 9th marathon – and my first race outside Canada. Prague is beautiful! I was somewhat sleep deprived on race day, and I definitely did too much walking the day before – but I managed to rally for the race.

The expo was great, and easy to find by public transit. I liked finding my name on the runners wall. The race shirt (extra fee – but worth it) was a nice quality adidas shirt. I also got a free adidas RunCzech running jacket.

Weather in Prague is variable at this time of year – but race day was perfect – can’t remember exactly, but I think about 6 degrees Celsius with no rain and minimal wind.

The course is beautiful. It crosses the river several times and the spectators were enthusiastic – particularly on the Old Town side of the river. Water / refreshment tables were big enough that there was minimal congestion.

My only issue – and this may be the norm in Europe – was that age group placing was by gun time (and there was not a separate gun for each corral). The start corrals were very crowded and I suspect that there were many people who were not in the appropriate corral. It took more than 5 km before I could run without dodging slower runners in front of me. Also the certificate finishing time and splits were calculated on gun time. It took me 4 minutes to get to the start line (I think it would have been about 12 minutes for the back runners). This was just added into your first 5 km split time. I ended up 2nd in age group – and would have done so based on gun or chip time so I suppose it doesn’t really matter.

The majority of the race was on asphalt – but I did find the cobblestones harder to run on than I’d expected. Fortunately they were interspersed throughout the course, so manageable. Also – probably worth it because those streets were so scenic.

Overall – this was a highlight race for me. It was very well organized and such a positive, friendly environment. I feel privileged to have been able to participate!

My husband was driving so we stayed in a motel in Val David (start line) and then he drove to meet me at the finish in Saint Gerome. This meant that I could avoid the shuttle bus to the start line. There was in door (warm) space at the start line which was good because it was a cold morning.

This is a well organized race on a truly beautiful course. The trail is in great shape – fine gravel on a smooth, well packed surface. It passes though a few towns but mostly just nature. It is a point to point downhill course, but gentle enough that it wasn’t problematic for the legs.

We were started in 10 corrals, each 5 minutes apart so there runners were well spaced out over the course. It is probably not the ideal race for runners who feed on the energy of other runners and spectators. You do look forward to the great volunteers at each water station though! I appreciated people yelling out encouragement in English as well as French.

Overall, this was a great race. I ran a PB – and enjoyed doing it! There was lots of energy at the finish at the post-race food was great.

The only negatives are that the race shirt is made from completely unbreathable fabric which means I won’t ever wear it. Also, I would love to have had a photographer somewhere on the course. There was no shortage of scenic locations! They did post pictures at the finish line – although of the 3 pictures posted for me, I am not even in 2 of them and am way in the background of the 3rd picture. (Automatic camera I assume)

I would absolutely recommend this race. Register early though – it sells out fast.
