This race is different from most of the races I’ve done. I did the 12 hour races so I already knew my finishing time when I started. Instead the goal is to run as many miles in that time as possible I had volunteered at this race many year and it always looks like everyone was having a great time so I was happy to finally do it.
It seems like everyone in the race knows each other. Partly that is due to the course. The course is a 1 mile mostly dirt, mostly flat loop, and runs through a barn, by the one support station. So you are continually passing or being passed by other runners. There is an out and back section, and you get to see everyone coming and going. Although the support station is well stocked you can also park your car on the course and pass that every mile also.
I admit it is difficult doing the same loop hour after hour. But you are never alone and never far from support. It can get a bit warm later in the day. The out and back section is exposed, but most of the rest of the course is in the shade.
The race shirt was really nice as was the smiling goat finishing medal. And since I hit the 50 mile mark I also got a charm for that. Plus there was a photographer who gave out free pictures afterwards.
I would recommend this race. I definitely see why people keep coming back to it and I plan to do it again next year.
