This course was very flat and fast. Unfortunately for us runners that day, there was a heat wave in town. It was extraordinarily hot with limited shade. Two days before the race, they moved the start time 30 minutes earlier which was greatly appreciated. Parts of it were an out and back and it took place in the neighborhoods mostly. The scenery wasn’t anything special. The expo wasn’t too bad… it was my first time completing a rock n’ roll race and it was not too bad. I do think there could’ve been more water/Gu/aid stations along the course considering how hot it was.

This was my second marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though it was a very tough course with over 1,100 ft of elevation gain, the crowd support, large race, and energy around me helped me PR. There was crowd support almost the entire time. There were lots of aids stations… one at nearly every mile. The hill at mile 26 is KILLER, but it’s party of the experience! I highly recommend the Austin marathon! The expo was amazing, finish line party was incredible, and swag was great. I got 2 shirts, a short sleeve and long sleeve! I would definitely do it again, especially knowing now the course. This race made me a stronger runner, both physically and mentally. Challenge yourself & run Austin!

As a first time marathoner, I did not know what to expect. Fellow runners, spectators, and volunteers were so kind and encouraging. Lots of aid stations. VERY flat! The barrel room was cool too.. even got some chardonnay! The post race party was great. Swag was even better. Appreciated not being shoved/yelled at in the finishing chute like I have been in the past.

If you’re looking for a quiet, small town race, this is for you. I prefer a bit more crowd support to keep my energy up and this race lacked it. A lot of the race was through neighborhoods which I thought was a missed opportunity seeing as though you run right by the water. My watch, along with three of my other friends’ watches, said that we were under 13.1 miles when we finished the race. That’s why even though I “set a PR”, I said my performance was not amazing because it wasn’t the full distance. There’s no expo or large production, so be sure to not have high expectations on that.

My first mile was extremely slow because it was so packed in the opening corrals. I didn’t like how it was an out and back, it made the course a little boring. I wish they’d had us run more downtown in Monterey or PG. The expo was amazing and really well run. I love the shirt they gave us.
