This race has been on our radar for a while and we pulled the trigger on doing it this year. They go all out on the pig theme – from the volunteers (“grunts”) to the finish “swine.”

This year the expo had to be moved to the Northern Kentucky Convention Center and it was pretty chaotic, but still organized well.

First race I’ve ever seen put porta-potties in the starting corrals. Genius!

It’s a very fun atmosphere and great crowd support along the way. Lots of signs and cheer zones. It was very hilly miles 7-10, but has some great downhill the rest of the way.

We just ran this for fun and really loved our experience.

The weather was warm this year, so support along the way was really awesome – especially in the first 13.1. The hills are relentless on the 2nd half of the run and warm temps and wind did not help this year. Still an awesome finish experience and the post-race party at the Guthrie Green is awesome. We continue to love our hometown race.

Salina Crossroads was a lot of fun. We made it just in time to pick up our packet the night before, it was quick and easy. They did a great job communicating about the weather the night before and the morning of the race. There wasn’t much crowd support, but that’s because it was 50 and rainy the entire time. The course was fun, simple, and clearly marked. There is one “main’ hill but it’s followed but a few uphill climbs – but the majority is flat. Pie at the finish line was awesome. The t-shirts and medals are nice.

The expo was great with lots of energy. This was the biggest race I’ve been a part of, but loading into the corrals and the start of the race was smooth.

The first 9 miles is pretty flat, but lots of long uphills over the last 4 miles. Lots of entertainment along the way and running through the Stockyards is fun.

There was a gauntlet of snacks and drinks for recovery.

For swag, ended up with a short sleeve tech race shirt, short sleeve tech finisher shirt, and instead of foil blankets a reusable (and easy to discard) Cowtown jacket.

For the post race, meeting up with my wife was easy but nowhere to sit after the race.

Loved running the Route 66. It was cold temps (started out in the mid 20s) but the sun was shining and there was no wind. The hills at the end once again felt like monsters, but was able to PR! Fantastic medals and swag this year.

I grew up in Central Illinois so it was fun to return for a race. The course is flat, as promised. There may not be much “scenery” but there is diversity from campus, to cornfields, to finishing at the 50 yard line. But the atmosphere was awesome! Lots of people out, even on the windy and rainy day we ran it. Finishing on the football field was an awesome experience and may a great place to hang out and get food (except walking up bleacher steps)! I had my worst training block ever and a terrible performance, but still loved this race.

After a few years of running the half marathon, moved up to the full + the Center of the Universe “detour.” Lots of energy on the first half of the course and really thins out on the back half. The hills are never crazy steep, but they are relentlessly rolling. By the time I got to the detour it was a pretty sad affair. I hit the wall at mile 20 and never recovered. Really discouraged after thinking I was ready to tackle it.

Due to 2020 I had to pivot from my plans and decided to run St. Jude. This was my first marathon and not how I planned on it going. But, St Jude’s registration was easy and way cheaper than the price of the marathon I was already registered for (which I deferred). My race did not go how I wanted it to. But I got through it!

This race has the best environment I’ve been a part of. It begins and ends in downtown Tulsa. Along the way you run through midtown with beautiful homes and lots of people out to cheer for you. There is no shortage of excitement and energy. Downtown Tulsa races are difficult because you have to climb back up to the finish!

Loved this race. It was a little hillier than I expected, but had a great downhill finish. It was 50ish degrees and rained for the entire race. I think there would have been more crowd support if it wasn’t so gross outside. I had been sick and wasn’t sure how to pace myself, so really pushed over the last 3-4 miles.

After runs in Tulsa, OKC seemed flat. I wouldn’t have known it was the daunting “gorilla hill” if it wasn’t for a huge inflatable gorilla. Good sections of crowd support but lots of nothing in-between. The race shirt is my favorite of all time, but the finisher shirt was pretty gross. The best part of OKC is the moment of silence before the race and the pictures of those lost along the way – it’s really meaningful.

Ran this because it was a rare summer race. Dodged the heat being too bad, but there was a pretty long stretch of no shade when the sun was up. It was a small race so there was no crowd support. The best scenery was running through OSU’s campus. I didn’t have a time goal and just ran for comfort – didn’t even look at my time until past 10 miles.
