Longest consecutively run foot race in the world. Race caps at 14,000 participants. It’s a doable number logistically. Plenty of buses to shuttle runners to starting line on race morning. Excellent expo with discounts and nicely organized packet pickup structure. Organizers urged me to reference the website for details but info wasn’t accurate (shuttle ran after 7:45 am, strollers were allowed and pets were allowed, no pace flags in starting corral). Be warned, there is no gear check, so you’re either cold while you wait or carrying your extras the whole race.
The costume contest was outstanding. Started at 8:30. MC’d and judged by local TV personality. Great and creative entries. Individuals went first. Groups next. Impressive participants!
Course was flat (150 foot elevation change), mostly cleared of snow and slush, and through a beautiful part of Millionaire’s Row and other city landmarks. The city’s support was incredible. They lined the course in windy weather, cheered for runners, held posters, wore costumes themselves, and shares snacks, adult beverages and hydration with participants. It was encouraging for sure. There was even a Donut Drop at a bridge overpass where runners caught a treat when they acknowledged they were ready. Fire Department hoisted ladders across Delaware Avenue with large American flag.
The after party was a crush of people with giveaways, fruit, beer and loud music.
I’m so glad I made this my New York race. Being from NC, the weather advisory the night before had me concerned about driving and running in the windy and snowy conditions. I’m glad I didn’t overdress.

Main concerns for me were bears, moose, and mosquitoes. Had plenty of the latter. Never saw a moose or bear (although a participant had moose’s antler hat…so I’m counting it!). At mile 6, I got very preoccupied with mosquitoes. I had bug spray on my legs and got no bites.
The greenway is wonderfully shaded. Made temps perfect for the run. Yes. Rolling hills, but not brutal until the finish. The last three hills were serious and demoralizing. But there were supporters with posters cheering you through. Cheered for everyone (fast or slow)! I got confused in the final chute because it had openings, but made it to the proper grass turn and into the finish arch. Lots of supporters. And announcer made supportive and tailored comments about me. Medal is very nice and matches shirt.
THE AFTER PARTY – Wow. Sooooo good. They had photo activation areas that were fun for all. There were grilled cheeses on wheat or sourdough from a local bakery. The water truck was ingenious! Every race needs one! Great Harvest Bread had three choices of bread with or without butter. Qdoba offered chips with several queso options. There were lots of bags of chips, oranges, apples and bananas. Good music. Great atmosphere. The beer garden was crowded, long, long, twisting line and militant ID checkers at entrance. Waited about 30 minutes and finally gave up to get the Frontier soda (which had no line).
Locals have been most welcoming. Will strike up a conversation and explain local history, happenings and bear stories! Absolutely a fabulous race. So glad I did it.

Expo
Lots of photo opps. Activation stations. Samples. Eclectic collection of vendors. Something for everyone, including your friends/spectators. Signed the banner. Found my name on the giant banner (so cool). Stood on the lighted 13.1 sign. Great experience including “smoke” (dry ice) at the tunnel entrance. Really felt like a professional athlete. It was worth the walk through.
Start Village
Great setup. Jumbotrons made sure you didn’t miss anything happening at the starting line. Mattes for stretching were available. Great chance to see the Elvises and Run Forest Run costumes. Schedule was running ahead so they put us through the chute early.
Race
Love the tracking app. My spectators were able to see me at pedestrian bridges over the Strip, go get supper and get to the finish line. Perfect from my perspective. Course had lots to look at. World’s largest selfie station could have used a helper or volunteer to keep it moving faster. Neat concept. The course was easy and flat. (Beware of the street’s lane reflectors. Possible trip hazard.) Aid stations were helpful. Volunteers were kind and encouraging. So were the stage performers. Great engagement as you ran past. Made you run harder!
Finish
Porta potties are before the finish. So you have a tough choice. Need potties after the finish line. Others had commented on the very long finishing chute. I was prepared and it was really long.
Swag
Any race that makes a custom shirt with my name on it as a participant is TOPS in my book!!
Warning
If you bought the pint glass, it is NOT dishwasher safe. I ruined mine on the first wash.
