This was a well run event. Course had about 500’ elevation gain. Some of the roads were a bit bumpy/potholes, so you had to pay close attention. Course included some nice scenery around University Lake. Quite a bit of the second half portion of the marathon was an out and back. Race swag was limited (t-shirt). Finisher medal was nice.

I would highly recommend this marathon. Scenery and fall foliage was spectacular. We had fantastic marathon weather. Be prepared to run hills. About 1,500 feet of elevation gain over the 26.2 miles. Tough final 10K, not just because it’s a marathon but also due to elevation gain on that final 10K. Marathon course is from Bar Harbor, ME to Southwest Harbor, ME. Most people stay in Bar Harbor and after the marathon there are buses to bus you back to Bar Harbor. We instead stayed in Southwest Harbor and got dropped off near the starting line.

Beautiful marathon course. You get bused out to the starting line and run back to Missoula. We had great Marathon weather. Course is fairly kind and fast with the exception of a 150’ climb around the half marathon part of the course. Missoula is a beautiful town with the Clark Fork River running through it and does a fantastic job of hosting their marathon weekend. They offer a free beer run (3 miles) on Friday evening which I would recommend participating in. And a popular 5K on Saturday. Anyone interested in running a marathon in Montana should consider the Missoula Marathon.

Black Hills of South Dakota are gorgeous. Beautiful scenery on this course. Only thing about this marathon I wish was different is they didn’t start the race until 8 AM and wish they started it earlier as it got quite warm during the second half of the race. You get bused out to the starting line and run back to Deadwood. The Deadwood Mickelson Marathon is run along a portion of the Mickelson Trail which is over a hundred miles long. It was formerly a railroad track which was converted to a trail and is made up of crushed limestone so don’t let trail make you think it’s a single track technical trail race as it is not. First half of the marathon is a gradual ascent (over 1000’ of elevation gain) and the second half of the marathon is a gradual descent. Deadwood, SD is a historic town and well worth the visit. This was a well run marathon and I would recommend it if you’re looking to run a marathon in South Dakota.

The Lincoln Track Club organizes this very well run marathon. Cool thing about this marathon/half marathon is there are several National Guard men and women rucking it and they start 5 minutes, along with the wheelchair athletes, before all the other runners. It was great seeing them throughout the first half of the marathon. The first half of the full marathon is the half marathon course which is basically a loop course and then the second half of the marathon is an out and back with a pretty good hill to climb around mile 19. Only about 600’ of elevation gain in this marathon, so it can be a pretty fast course if that’s what you’re looking for.

In my opinion, the Boston Marathon is the most epic marathon in the world. Its history of over 125 years is impressive. Highly recommend riding the school buses from Boston Common to the starting line in Hopkinton, MA, as it’s part of the overall Boston Marathon experience. One of the biggest challenges of this marathon is it starts later in the morning, you need to board your bus at specific times well before your start time, and then hangout at Athletes’ Village before walking to the starting line area to enter your corral. Course is challenging with fairly steep downhill at the beginning, hills in the middle and Heartbreak Hill around mile 20. Running through the various towns along the route is fun. The Boston Marathon volunteers are amazing and an integral part of making the marathon run so efficiently.

Highly recommend this marathon if you’re going for a PR/PB as it’s a FAST course. You get bused out to the starting line on Usery Mountain early in the morning. They have heaters at the starting line area to gather around to stay warm until the “gun goes off”. Race starts just before sunrise and it’s nice to see the day light up as you descend. First half of the race is about 900’-1,000’ descent with just one uphill around mile 6. The second half of the marathon is a flat course. Only negative was the half marathon starts half way down the marathon course and some of those walking the half marathon cause some foot traffic which requires some weaving to get by them.
