This run is scenic. You start south of Rio and run along the picturesque ocean. At miles 18 (Ipanema Beach area) to the finishline there is great crowd support. I will say the day we ran was “warm.” I was sweating at .5 miles and the heat does take a toll.

Rio is a great place to visit. The people are really friendly. Yes, there is incredible poverty, but you are not submerged in it, unless you wish to tour one of the favalas (slums). To me, you won’t find another race with the scenery of Rio. Enjoy!

I went with Marathon Tours. I ran in Athens the week before. Istanbul is worth it if you like history. You stay steps from the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. I stayed at the Ottoman, and it had a distinct odor in the hallways.

Bag placement was actually dangerous due crowds and the nuances of the drop off location, again extremely crowded.

You start by running over the Bosphorus Strait. This bridge is awesome. There is not much crowd support during the race and there was no professional photography. You end the race steps from the hotels, and the crowd support at the end is worth it, kind of like a slim gauntlet for 200 yards.

Jen & Jane of Marathon Tours made this one super easy to enjoy. We stayed at the Hera, just steps from the Acropolis and Plaka. The hotel was easy to walk to from the finish line/stadium.

They drop you off in Marathon and it is crowded there. The race does have some hills. You end in the Olympic Stadium which is awesome. I recommend the event and going with Marathon Tours. Mark this one off your bucket list. Enjoy!
