LA loves its marathon. It’s a city wide party with 25,000 guests; it still felt like they did it just for me. The crowd support keeps you energized the entire way.

This was my 4th time running LA. The weather was good this year, but if you can’t handle heat, you might not enjoy it. And it’s a long day! I park in Santa Monica and try to get there by 4:00, for a race that starts at 6:55. But they do a great job at the stadium, opening up the concourse if you want to sit. Nutrition is available. Plenty of bathrooms.

The course is a great overview of iconic LA. Chinatown, Hollywood & Highland, Rodeo Drive. For an urban race, it’s a great route.

They made a small tweak to the course that I really liked. You don’t run through the VA anymore. Instead it’s an even stronger, longer, decline finish that pulls you to the finish.

Previously known as the Tustin Leprechaun Leap, a 5k only race, this was the inaugural year of the Tustin Hangar Half Marathon & 5k.

The race was well organized , with a well marked course, and decent route support. As a Tustin resident, a hometown race offers some extra enjoyment. But what makes this race special is the opportunity to run through the old Tustin Marine Base blimp hangar. The hangar is huge, and I get a sense of awe, for it’s history and size, when I’m inside.

The race is definitely on my short list to run again next year. The one thing I hope is that they can get the city to embrace the race, with more spectators to cheer you on.

I signed up for this as part of the Conquer LA Challenge. As a past LA Marathon participant, I was looking forward to the race. Finish on the 50 yard line of the Rose Bowl!

The Expo was a joke. Almost no vendors, nothing in the swag bags, but you had to attend or PAY EXTRA for race day pick-up. Why not let a friend get the packet?

I woke up early, followed the parking directions, and was in the lot ready to go by 5:45 a.m. Lined up in the corral by 6:50 … and then the delays started. 25-30 minutes, standing in cold, wet weather, with no reason stated by the announcer who was sadly stalling. In weather like that, especially for a race with a total (5k & 1/2 marathon) of only 6,000 participants, the delay was inexcusable!

Volunteers were great; water stations were well staffed. The weather ruined any scenery the course may have. Mix of incline and decline through most of the route.

The Rose Bowl finish was anti-climactic. Display runners on the jumbo tron, get some noise going. I felt like I was running into an empty field. Maybe the weather kept activities from setting up, but the post-race experience was non-existent.

Without major improvement, don’t waste your time or money on this race.
