This was my second marathon and I signed up mostly because it was supposed to have such good scenery and on the more affordable side. The lakes are gorgeous and I enjoyed running through the parks.
Do not sleep on this race! It was SO much fun. The participation is just bonkers – everybody was outside cheering. It felt like the whole of both cities were out spectating. Lots of fun snacks and good aid stations. Lots of portapotties.
The course itself is really flat imo but there are some unexpected hills that will pop up at the end. They are probably pretty flat but at the end of the run you really are feeling them. The people here are so friendly btw you will almost certainly make friends with folks running your pace. I ran over half the race with somebody from TC and had a blast with them (thank you alex!).
Excellent Expo which had a lot to offer but was easy in and out. The shuttles to and from the race itself ran promptly and were easy to take.
Every marathon I have run since this one I wonder why I don’t just go back to Twin Cities!

I signed up for this race because I heard it was supposed to be super fun and have great crowd support. The race was still fun and the volunteers were great – good production and well organized BUT I was expecting way more crowds the way people hype up this race.
Second thing that was overhyped were the hills. I expected an elevation gain of 1200+ and it was just over 1000 per my Coros. Didn’t even notice the hills.
Third overhype is the EXPO! Maybe it was just bad last year or I went late or something but it was like empty of vendors. Lots of people, almost no vendors. Also I had to walk around a ton looking for my bib and shirt etc they were all on opposite ends of this huge ballroom.
Overall I enjoyed this race, but it is not one of my favorites.

This was my first marathon and I wanted to run something really flat. This is for sure extremely flat! Maybe too flat (elevation ~200 feet). The volunteers were awesome though this is essentially not staff. I think there were like… three water stations – which is probably a limitation of the area so whatever I came prepared.
For me, the woods got really monotonous and the fact it was an out and back just about mentally killed me. It also started to get VERY hot towards the end.
I don’t want to hate on this because I think it was well organized and could be pretty if that’s what you’re into. Definitely a little local event and I loved it for that!
