When I initially signed up for this run I was under the impression it would be at Eden Prairie on a flat course. I received an email a few weeks prior to the race indicating that the race would be in Maple Grove instead due to permit issues. I understood, as life happens and things come up. I was particularly drawn to this race because of what other online reviews had mentioned about how well it was ran, and how there were plenty of restrooms available. I also read that there were even showers post race!
I thought this would be a great place for me to run my second half, so I chose to sign up. When I got to the race it was totally different than my expectations. There were only two port a potties for all the runners located at the start line. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, but you can’t expect people to run 13.1 miles without having a restroom somewhere along the course. It seemed poorly planned to me. They also didn’t have access to a building or very much parking. I also wish they offered packet pickup at the event (like lots of other races do). I had a family emergency and wasn’t able to get mine until the race day. I emailed someone and they said they’d have it, but they didn’t. I had to reach back out so they would mail it to me. I realize this isn’t their problem, and that they have loads of other prep things to do but I thought it was worth mentioning. They also only had water and didn’t have any sports drinks like the initial email said. Again, a little bit of a small nuisance but not a huge deal.
The maple Grove course was pretty scenic, but extremely hilly! It was totally the opposite of what was listed for the original one. I know things come up, but this event was really poorly planned.

This was my first ever half marathon and I had no clue what to expect. I had ran numerous 5k and 10ks prior to this, but never a half. I loved that it benefitted the town’s fire department and that it went to such deserving folks!
I have spent plenty of time on this trail in the past, and it is a smooth and flat course on a well maintained trail. I’d argue it’s one of the best pedestrian walking/biking trails in the state! The views are to die for, and the people on the trail are always super upbeat and friendly.
Overall I couldn’t have asked for better ammenities and aid stations. There were plenty of water stations and restrooms along the way. There was also a marathon going on at the same time that started earlier that morning. It was a drizzly day, but being a native Midwestern person I didn’t mind. There were lots of friendly folks at different mile markers cheering the runners along, which was very motivational! They also had a nice meal afterwards at the fire hall, but I didn’t spend too much time at that.
I will definitely sign up for this race again! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience 🙂 My medal looks great, and I love the shirt as well. It’s definitely a prized possession of mine.
