First of all, Best. Post. Race. Food. Ever. Jambalaya, gumbo, Abita beer… I skipped the usual bananas. Food was HOT (very much appreciated as it was chilly and windy). I was full.
The course is relatively flat. The course support is great, and there were plenty of spectators even for the full-only portion. The residents come out to support. Also, there is none of that typical congestion you get at the beginning of many races. You run your race from the very get go. It seems like everyone locally is in on this event.
Easy logistics.
The expo is small-ish, and the swag is really just the shirt (and the medal, of course), but I don’t particularly care about the swag as long as I get my medal.
This was my Louisiana race, and I’m glad I picked this one.

Small (~60 full runners) but well organized from packet pickup to race end. Aid stations were well-supported by very nice people. It is technical enough but not enough to require trail shoes (I ran in ASICS Cumulus road shoes). The only thing–the tapes indicating the way could be a bit better placed–I had to stop a number of times to figure out where the tapes were and was often wondering if I were going the right way….
