The Ocean View Challenge is a great way to collect 3 medals running only 16.2 miles. Let’s break this down:
5K
– pleasant out and back course
– lots of really cute kids running with parents
– pretty and quick
Half-marathon
– So much happening, so much to see
– One challenging hill; lots of smaller hills
– First 8 miles go by soooo fast
– Final 5 miles with gorgeous scenery and on Monterey’s rec trail
The organization is just ok. Last year, the volunteers totally messed up the corrals so the start line was nuts. But that didn’t happen this year.
Hydration stops are great and well organized.
Very enjoyable. Not “easy” per se, but not difficult either. Worth a try for sure!

Every runner must do at least one runDisney in their lives – it’s just so dang fun!
The positives
– Incredible production and atmosphere
– Fireworks at the start line – for every corral
– CLEANEST RACE EVER!! Not a single water cup or GU packet on the road.
– Fantastic entertainment – as you’d expect.
The negatives
– 90% humidity that weekend. Can runDisney’s be tough? If the weather sucks, absolutely! That level of humidity made the race exceedingly tough.
– 50% of the half is run on highways – but Disney does a good job providing entertainment during that time.
Worth doing!

The positives
– Unmatched scenery – the most beautiful course I run every year
– Super organized – the Big Sur folks are pros. They don’t mess around.
– Challenging course – if you like a challenge, this one is beautifully challenging
The negatives
– Honestly can’t think of any
– Perhaps a negative is just how challenging the course is. And it can also be super windy.
