This race is lovely, flat, and well-supported. The expo was easy to navigate. Parking on race day was straightforward – street parking, no charge. As usual, marathoners greatly outnumbered by half-marathoners and 9k runners. There were pacers which really helped. Most of the course is really lovely, with ocean views, paths through salt marsh and through the dunes, etc. albeit with a few drudgerous stretches. Crowd support was OK. Aid stations were adequate – volunteers could have been better about having water cups ready to go, but hey they’re volunteers. Some gels handed out on course but really bring your own. One modest hill. Lotta sun. We got lucky with the weather, mostly cool til the end, not a lot of wind considering it’s the beach. Overall, a good regional marathon and a BQ & PR for me.

Just beautiful run past monuments, along the water, and through cherry blossoms. A bit of an uphill at the very end to keep it real. Very well run. Nice tshirt design but still a cotton T unless you spring for the upgrade. The post-race food options were limited (bananas, granola bars, water) but that’s the only complaint.

This race is a lot of fun – the organizers aim to create a party atmosphere and pretty much succeed. The bands playing every couple miles are a great touch. The course is brilliant – the first few miles are great for getting inspired with a lovely tour of the National Mall and several monuments, then there’s a peaceful middle stretch through Rock Creek Park, and then the last half is through neighborhoods – lots of folks on their doorsteps and curbs to cheer you on. Not as flat as you might expect in DC, with one decent little hill as you come up from the park into Georgetown, but overall fairly fast. Plenty of food and another band at the end; swag’s nothing special.
