Course is rolling to flat. Support on the second half is awesome from residents and a wonderful surprise! Bag drop directions could be better. For out of town runners, having a bag ahead or knowing that you need to write on the bag is necessary. Plenty of water stops along the course and well supported by the city of Baton Rouge. So this marathon for you LA marathon, 50 staters.

This is a flat and fast course. Prior reviews said it can be windy and it was. It can come from any direction and change and it did. Shirt is nice. We stayed in Cape May and drove up for the race and if the casino scene isn’t for you, I would recommend that. Water support for the last 4 miles was non-existent.

This course is hilly! I think another reviewer mentioned that they had done Big Sur prior and said that this course is hillier. That is 100% true. It’s also July, so expect heat. I did not count on the high dew points and all those things together made this race super hard, but rewarding. Vermont and the Green Mountains are a pretty place to visit, so make a vacation out of it. PRs will be tough on this one.

This race is challenging. Expect several climbs and descents. Expect some headwind for all or most of the race. Expect road camber. Expect some disorganization at the start with no clear lines for the porta potties and no cell service.

Also, expect some of the most scenic views, great support on the course, great pacers and support at the end of the race. This is not a spectator race, but there are many participants to enjoy the run along with you as you run. If you are trying to get 50 states, do this race for California. If you are trying to PB or PR, consider a less challenging course.

This is a nice flat course and a great chance to run a winter marathon. We stayed on the island at one of the villas thinking this would make getting to the start much easier. Unfortunately, many of the shuttles were full when they drove to our stop and the one we finally got on broke down a couple miles from the start. We were not allowed to get out and had to go back to our pickup only to get to the start as the race was beginning. Once I got to the start, no one would tell me where to go drop my bag. For a lot of unforeseen issues, it was challenging. The race was well supported.
There are lots of turns on the course, so be prepared for that. My Otherwise, this is a great vacation spot in the winter. Lots of history in nearby Charleston.

Pros:
Great scenery, great course, great support, great change for a PR and your Washington race for 50 staters. The tunnel is the beginning is something unusual, but a memorable experience.

Very few spots for spectators, so if you are looking for large crowds to scream at you, this is not that race. Expect to be alone and no pacers.

Highly recommend making a vacation out of this race if you live outside of Washington. Beautiful place to visit and run!

Great big city race, with plenty of hills through some of the city’s landmarks and colleges. The college kids came out on a miserable cold and rainy day to support us. This was a year that with supply chain issues, our race bibs were disintegrating in the rain and were no longer staying pinned. Good winter run with some rolling and some challenging hills in the second half.

This race was re-scheduled as a result of covid. It is flat, with lots of turns. You get to run through the SD State campus, but the course does not have lots of support or spectators. It is a small race, with not a lot of people on the course. I was injured and could not find a med tent along the course, so just kept going. Thankfully, they kept things open for me to finish.

Great big city race! Nice course, great expo and production. I got to meet Des and Meb started the race. Post Boston Marathon bombing, security was tight and the production was handled very well. The only thing that wasn’t awesome was the shirt being extremely small. This is a good one to do for a possible PR. There are a few hills, but wonderful fall foliage.
