I overall like this race and scenary, first 10k the scenary is different- with turns and small rolling hills – after first 10k, the second half is on the boardwalk out and back. This time running it, I realized how the out 3ish miles out and back took a toll on my legs. My times slowed down more this second half. I think if the course had more variety second half, i would of kept my pace but my legs took a beating from the pavement. The sun comes out usually by this time of day, so might need sunglasses for this. I do think the hydration and gels were adequate and well placed. lots of cheering along the whole course. Overall, well organized and lots of swag. I stayed at Varden hotel for 2nd time as well and really recommend this place, the owners are awesome and very friendly. Have parking and walking distance to race, 10 min walk which is awesome. rented a electric scooter to go back to hotel because i was too sore to walk back haha. overall a very fun weekend. went to ballast point brewery afterwards. Nice deck and beers.

Good competition and I ran anchor leg. Had live DJ and tents for massage, food, drinks. Awesome relay medals and unique. Course for relay is 5.2 miles and first 1.4 is very hilly and all down hill until last 400 meters to finish which is incline. Officially timed with chip on baton that you carry and pass to each runner. 5 legs per team. Very cool race, hard as heck and was hot but worth it, will be doing it again next year to defend the title!

This is my second time running this race. I really like the surf city races. My husband also joined in the fun with me. Even though I did not PR- I enjoyed the race production and fun atmosphere. Course is designed where you run out along beach and then go into residential area somewhat and then back on beach scenery back to the finish. There is lot of cheering and crowds all through the race. It is very well marked. Weather was decent, warmer than last year but enjoyable still. Cliff bar and nuun sponsered. Parked at the free parking along the beach and warmed up and cooled down back to the car. even got some ice cream for the cool down back. I would repeat this race again.

Race was well marked, had volunteers directing all through the race. Its run by nonprofit and all race helpers are volunteers. 1st 3 miles is in the parking lot and last 3 within the park itself. Cardiac Hill is part of the 10K, not the 5K. Lots of turns and roundabouts within the park course. Very friendly race staff. Parking free. after race- had vendors, awards (very nice ones). I got 1st in 10K womens, and received 6 months free VIP membership to any Golds gym. No awards for each age group- just overall top 3 for men and female in each the 5k and 10k. Overall no the fastest course due to the wind that occurred day I raced and “cardiac” hill being in the last 1 mile of the race. overall, I liked the race and enjoyed it!! I would do it again.

Start and finish walking distance. Very close to my hotel (varden hotel). easy gear check in. Easy to get to day before bib pick up expo. Fastest half marathon for me. Pretty much all flat with very slight inclines here and there. Great finish, not one of those where you see it for a long time but takes forever to get there. I would definitely do it again! My husband and I had a great time!

My 2nd race of the surf city challenge. Stayed at local sponsored hotel which had shuttles to the race and back which was super convenient and easy. Glad we did it. The race start was few miles from our hotel. My sister, husband joined me on this race. Had a rainy start but enjoyed the scenic course. Some hills but small. Overall fun race and great vendors. Really enjoying the series so far. One more to go!

Keira is a great race director and her races are highly planned out. Griffith Park will always offer hilly hard races, and I got exactly that! The race was well marked and definitely mental race. Not my greatest performance but the finisher medals and awards were awesome. Great views of LA and glad I did it!

Second time doing it. I am a local, run SM all the time. This race is always fun. Flat course. Couple sharp turnarounds (2-3ish) during the course which is sort of annoying. But outfits are fun and weather is always perfect. Last 1.5 miles is tough because you sort of pass the finish but have to keep going and you also see the faster runners running back towards finish due to a sharp turnaround.

Decided to do this with my husband 2 weeks after our wedding.
Race was fun and tons of people. Lot of pacers for all levels.
Scenery was ok- i expected more different kinds of views but maybe I was so tired by mile 18- I did not realize my surroundings lol. Anyways, great race and production. Lots of swag and vendors.

First time doing it. Flat course. Has sharp turnarounds during the course- not my fave and it has the kind of finish where you pass by it but have to go out about 1-1.5 miles before returning which is somewhat of a mental game but overall fun race. Will do it again. SM is always a great place to run and great places to chill and eat after. Weather was perfect. Finish and start nearby. Parking- come early, fills quickly. bathrooms around.
