I signed up to run the half this year for my 9th time. As the race got closer and the impending weather became more of a factor, I was really nervous. I ended up deciding to run the race anyway. I could not believe the crowd support! Soooo many volunteers and community members came out to cheer us on, even as the rain poured down and storms hit Cincinnati. The crowds really make this race. It’s a tough course, but our city shows up. Thanks for the most memorable race yet!

I have run the Flying Pig half since 2012, but this year decided to try the marathon relay with my siblings. It was so well executed, and such a fun way to experience the Pig! We all went downtown before the race and 3 of us rode the buses to our relay points. The buses were easy to find and the relay points were really fantastic – lots of snacks, drinks, and porta potties! I thought I might be bored but the energy was fantastic. Then, of course, the race was amazing. I ran the third leg that goes through Mariemont and was amazed at how many people came out to cheer. We had so much fun and absolutely loved the swag we got!

This was my seventh time running the Flying Pig Half Marathon and it was one of the most fun years yet! The race directors really pulled out all the stops for the 20th anniversary celebration. The 3 weeks leading up to the race had tons of events, and the swag was phenomenal. The race itself was absolutely amazing! There was so much crowd support and there were ample gatorade/water stops plus stops for tissues, vaseline, Gu, swedish fish, cookies, oranges, sunscreen, and a “hogwash” with hoses. I didn’t PR but I can truly say that every time I do this race I have an absolute blast. The course is challenging enough that you really feel amazing just completing it.
I would recommend this race for walkers and beginning runners up to advanced runners.

This was my 6th year running the Flying Pig Half Marathon and I just keep coming back. This race is really expertly planned. Everything from the expo to the start line, water stations to the finish area is seamless and well thought out. The course is pretty challenging, which really makes you feel accomplished when you get that medal. Even when there has been bad weather, the spectators are amazing. The swag is also pretty great – the bags this year were awesome and although I didn’t love the shirt design, it’s still a nice tech shirt for training. This year was tougher for me than last year, but I’m already thinking about signing up for the 20th – couldn’t miss it!

Ran this race just after being diagnosed with bronchitis (I know, my sister said I was an idiot). I’ve run it before though and always have a blast, so I didn’t want to miss it. The course is pretty easy, just a couple hills. The after party is really the best part, as is the case with all the Beer Series runs. Since it’s part of Bockfest, you can hang out for hours at Moerlein or wander around OTR. The shirt and medal are also top notch.

This was my third year running in the Columbus Marathon. I did the half in 2012, the full in 2013, then came back for the 2016 half. This is a great race. They really work hard so that the participants really enjoy themselves. I would say the biggest pro is all the crowd support. Each mile is dedicated to a patient at the Nationwide Children’s Medical Center. Often the patient, friends, and family line the course during that mile to cheer on the runners. It adds a really meaningful, unique aspect to running a half marathon. The course is also fantastic since it’s flat and the weather is usually very mild. The only real cons for me in 2016 were the shirts (the sizing was way off) and some confusion getting to the start line. Otherwise, I had a fantastic time and highly recommend it!

This was my third time participating in the Hudy (2 times 14K, 1 time 7K). Every year has been a blast. This year I was fighting off a bad cold but decided to run it with my sister anyway. The course is really interesting, and I like that they reversed it from previous years to change it up a bit. It takes you through parts of Cincinnati you might not normally see. I love that on top of the usual water stations, they also had people handing out tissues (came in handy for my cold!). The finish line and after party are awesome. I also really love their shirts and medals every year. I will be back for sure!
