The only negative is it is not the more spectator friendly course, though you do not need them with the views and the extended down hill nature of the course. The small up hill at elevation at the start was probably the hardest portion of the course for me.

The need to prepare for large temperature change from the start to the finish and follow the tips for down hill running are the two biggest tips for future runners.

I would recommend taking the center of the universe detour. It does not add much distance to the race, and you can say you ran an ultra marathon. They do give you a coin/medal and a half a cup of beer for running the detour.

There is not a lot of options on where to eat if you are staying downtown. I found myself walking all day trying to find a place to eat as a lot of the restaurants downtown are only open Monday through Friday.

The marathon course is rolling hills, which was not particularly challenging or easy. Just make sure you include hills on your long runs and you should be fine.

The official race gear for sale seemed already picked over by Saturday mourning.

I would run this race again. Everything went smoothly. Expo was fine and bib pick up was fast and easy. Plenty of support along the course, definitely not lacking in side stations. A couple of rolling hills in the front half and flat in the second half. My headphones died on me at the halfway point and I enjoyed the second half of the race as much as the first half.
The food and drink tickets did not get as much as I hoped for. There are smaller races that offered more food and drink post race.
