The course if flat and fast. There are plenty of volunteers helping ensure that everyone has a great time. Unfortunately, this year the bag check lines were extremely long. I don’t blame it on the volunteers. They were great. The race organizers should analyze this and correct it for next year. It was the only blemish on an outstanding annual event.

Easy bib pickup. There aren’t a lot of vendors at the expo which is surprising for a major city marathon expo. Aside from that, everything is organized well and runs very smoothly. This year the race started at the Mercedes-Benz stadium. This was a great idea to change to start and finish venue. The Home Depot race finish area is large and felt easy to navigate and cool down after the race.
This is the second time I ran the 1/2 marathon so I knew that the course had hills and I was mentally prepared for them. And surprisingly, this year the hills didn’t seem as bad as last year.
The only downside was it was 32 degrees at the start of the race. This was the first time my knees were literally knocking before a run. Once the race began, the weather wasn’t a problem. I can’t blame the race organizers for a cold start.

It’s hard to beat running in Washington D.C. I never tire of seeing our nation’s capital. The turnout from supporters along the route was truly amazing. The people were loud and very encouraging.

Because of unusually high travel leading up to the MCM, my longest training run leading up to the MCM was only 15 miles the weekend before the race. I wasn’t prepared but I couldn’t miss this race. I abandoned hopes of a PR and just ran for the pure enjoyment of the experience. I’m glad I did!

The volunteers always had a smile on their faces and were shouting out instructions on what type of liquid they were holding at each station. There were many musical acts lining the race and they always gave me an uplift when I was running past them.

The sombering part of the race was “The Blue Mile.” This was a one mile stretch dedicated to fallen soldiers. As we ran through this area, people ran with a quiet respect for the enormity of what we were seeing. It was truly moving and I’ll remember it forever.

The MCM is a great marathon and I understand why it’s so popular. I’m sure I’ll run it again soon.

The combination of Cherry Blossoms and the historical monuments of our nation’s capital are impossible to beat. This was my second time running the race. I have to ask myself why I don’t run this every year!

The volunteers are great, the course is beautiful, and everyone is excited to participate.

The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler along with the Marine Corp Marathon are the best races in DC and there is a reason there is a lottery for both.

I decided to fly to Atlanta to run this race with friends. I’m glad that I did. The 1/2 marathon was a great way to see the city. I was surprised at how many hills there were on the course since I always thought Atlanta was flat.

The race was great, but be warned that you should double or triple the amount of time you plan for traffic and parking. The expo and the race begins in downtown Atlanta. There was a lot of congestion Saturday to pickup my packet and also on race day. Neither of these delays tarnished the event, but traffic is a problem that requires extra time and patience.

Overall, it was a great experience. It must have been a great experience since I’m registered and training for the 2024 race!
