I ran this as a bucket list race just for the scenery, and it did not disappoint! I am a flatlander, so people that run a lot of hills probably won’t think it as tough as I did, but there is a LOT of uphill going out, which means a LOT of downhill on the back half. It makes for a fast finish! Once you get up that huge uphill, you’re on the old highway, and it’s spectacular. The fall trees are in full color and stretches are truly a tunnel of amazing. There is a big water stop at an overlook, so be sure to stop for water and photos! People can run with their dogs, so bonus, you get to see cute dogs! Post-race, they know how to treat runners – taco bar, fresh fruit and cider from local orchards, cake, coffee – if you leave hungry, it’s your own fault. Highly recommend!

First of all, I’m a flatlander, so I think anything with hills is tough! This is a smaller race, but the organizers did a great job. It starts and finishes along the waterfront, which was really pretty. It heads up into some nice neighborhoods in the middle and was just a generally nice, tree-lined course through a really cute town. I added this one to my “racecation” to tick off another state without having to go to a big city and I’m glad I did. It’s a really pretty part of Washington!

Seriously, this one was all about the weather. The course is not in town, and on race day it was COLD and very windy, so it was miserable. The first part of the course was hilly and it would probably have been pretty if we weren’t in the middle of a drought, so it was all brown. The second part of the course along a busy road was pretty boring, but the volunteers were super friendly and cheered everybody on. Tons of food afterwards and massages, but the finish line was disappointing since it was so cold everyone was inside. It’s a small race and I was not in a group of runners at the end, so as I came in two people popped out to display my time and direct me inside to pick up my medal. I totally understand with the weather and all the stuff inside was great, but still a bit of a downer. I’m sure when the weather cooperates it’s a fun little race, but that’s spring in the plains! I would like to run it again sometime!
