I participated as a pacer for the second time (3:30 target time). The race is very well organized and there are 4 races in one: Back to back marathons, starting at midnight – The Full Marathon, or the option to run the First Half or the Second Half.

Very well organized, the scenery is great (especially the first half), and the course is challenging enough (not your PR marathon unless you thrive on hills or is your first 🙂 )

A race that starts at “arc de triomphe” cannot be anything than epic. Flat and super scenic, particularly running along the Champs Elysees or parallel to the Seine river with a gorgeous view of the Eiffel Tower…It helps that I work for the company that had the title sponsor this year, so we got VIP treatment at the expo and on race day 🙂

This race goes up and down on the Pacific Coast Highway; up the Northbound Lane, Down the Southbound lane, up the bike path, down the bike path. If you don’t see the ocean, you must be running between miles 3-9 when the race course goes inland, or you’ve lost your ways!

Soak your feet in the ocean when you’re done! not many marathons give you that great opportunity 🙂

If you want a million spectators from all over the world cheering you on, NY Marathon is the only one in the world that can offer that.

This particular edition was so windy that the wheelchair division had to start the race on the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano Bridge. For the rest of us, side winds made it for a very, very cold start.

at around 8500 feet (2,600m), the elevation will get you if you haven’t had at least a week to get used to it and go out for a taper run to get a feel for it. The race is well organized, and the half marathon field is much smaller than the 10Km race.

The Expo is very well organized, and the swag is quite special (how about a backpack?)
