This is a flat, fast course that runs mostly along pretty urban by-the-river running trails. I’d like to run this one again, hopefully on a much sunnier day. The weather was definitely a drawback this year – rained the entire time, and absolutely poured for a few miles in the middle there. It helped being in it with 1,300 others, though, and spirits remained high. The wine tasting at the end was not as relaxed or comfortable as the one in Oregon last year. Too many people crammed under a tent – the lines were long, the space claustrophobic, and I ended up bailing on the tasting and going back to my hotel room to dry off and drink by the fireplace.

Running *and* wine? Yes, please!

Due to a couple of long-term injuries (plantar fasciitis and a torn meniscus in my left knee), I was unable to run for many years. This race seemed tailor-made for me, as I love running and I love drinking wine! The course is beautiful, and the starting line vineyard at sunrise was breathtaking. I was a little nervous about how hilly the course might be, but it is entirely manageable. I would only warn about a lengthy stretch of gravel road near the end of the race, around mile 11 or so. If you wear minimalist or barefoot shoes, it is a little painful! Nevertheless, I would run this race again in a heartbeat, because the wine was delish, the swag was awesome, and I will forever think of this particular race as “the one where Amy returned to running.”
