About Me

  • Running club(s):

    Kingman Runnig Club

  • Rave race:

    Twin Cities Marathon Weekend 10K

  • Race that's calling my name:

    Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas

  • I run because:

    At 62 I run mostly because I still can. Beyond that I truly enjoy it. There is no better way to stay fit. I have been a competitive athlete my entire life and it is certainly not my time to quit. I’m still collecting top 3 age group finish awards and I get an old guy thrill from that. I really enjoy the serenity of my training runs but I also very much enjoy the social side of being in a running club and interacting with other competitors on race days. I’m also keen on the science of running and fitness. The shoes, insoles, clothing, nutrition, hydration, heart rate training, all of that to me is very cool. I recently moved to Kingman AZ and am now very much enjoying the high desert running and hiking life as well as competing in races in this area. Including Laughlin, Phoenix, Havasu, Lake Mead and Las Vegas. Very different from my home state Minnesota. It’s new, exciting, very cool and a lot of fun…

1.55 miles up a steep grade through Kingman then 1.55 miles up a gradual grade towards Hualapai peak. Then turn around and fly downhill to the finish. You’re surrounded by high desert landscape and colorful Route 66 attractions. Managed by the Kingman Running Club and very well sponsored by Kingman Regional Medical and many others. Well attended and a great way to launch a Saturday morning good and proper…

This race helps support Kingman “Dig It” community gardens. Organized and run by The Kingman Running Club who always do a great job. No finisher medals but a very nice t shirt and goodie bag. All top placed runners/winners received a horticulturally themed prize. The course was flat with changing surfaces and a few tricky turns. Post race munchies were top notch. Great weather, a fun Saturday morning, fun people. Will definitely do again…

Pretty well managed race. There was a hiccup with mailing out of the Bibs. Kinda frustrating because I paid $10.00 for that privilege. But with races such as these “Stuff” happens and I just roll with it. It’s a cool course but the public are not barred from being on it as you are racing. There is also plenty of vehicle traffic which is not a hindrance but just adds to the chaos. Really nice to run near the water. It was VERY well attended by people from all over the U.S. A good experience and I will definitely do it again next year.

The first thing you need to know is this: You have to pay the fee for entering the National Park. $25.00. I ran the 5K. For which the entry costs were just under $50.00. I read all of the race info carefully, twice, before paying the entry fee. There was absolutely NO mention of the park fee. That is until Tuesday before the race when they sent out a mass Info email. Of course it was too late to request a refund at that point. I have no problem with supporting racing organizations or national parks. No problem whatsoever… BUT this park entry fee info should have been provided UP FRONT… Kinda sneaky and not at all transparent on the part of the race promoters. I will NOT participate again going forward… Beyond that, it was a fine race. Chip timing, awards, water, very ordinary munchies, Jimmy Johns sandwiches, t-shirts. All the relatively normal stuff. The course was rolling and not necessarily scenic. Pretty much a paved multi purpose trail through a desert landscape next to Lake Mead. Very much uninteresting… An expensive day of training….

A well done and well organized race. Better then average for sure but short of great. Good pricing, plenty of parking, GREAT MC (Gal on the mic was terrific), one the better participant medals I’ve received, post race munchies were very good, awards ceremony was fun and well done, a lot of participants and fun energy, Laughlin is a fun Casino town, a lot of GREAT places for fun and food and lodging, plenty of quality photos to download for your memories, all together a “Dam Fine Race”. Negatives: Not much of a swag bag, T Shirt quality was just okay, turn around point was pretty narrow, route was not very scenic but still okay, the Beer ran out and the Beer line got way too long. All that said, I’ll be looking forward to running it again next year for sure…

The first half of this out and back 5K and 10K race is all up hill. Super steep from 1 to 1.5 miles. But on the run back you’re a Rockstar… Kingman is at 4000 feet and surrounded by desert mountain landscape. The first 2 miles is run on historic Route 66. There’s a lot of tourist attractions and great places to eat, drink and have fun. The race is managed by The Kingman Running Club and is very well done.

Part of TC Marathon Weekend. A TON of runners. This is as big time a 10K as they come. Course goes up a Long Steep grade almost immediately. Probably close to a mile to the top. Then it is very rolling until the final downhill to the finish. It is an out and back. 1000’s of spectators and a lot of fun from a runners perspective. Very scenic through parts of the oldest and most prestigious parts of St. Paul. Great professional photos and video to download a few days later. My only criticism is that the post race munchies were bargain basement. Other than that a truly great experience.
