Pay attention to day-of logistics. Getting up at 2:30 AM and getting to the shuttle and then waiting at the start line for 2 hours was almost as hard as the run. The course is incredibly beautiful, there is nothing like it out there. This isn’t a PR-friendly course, so just enjoy the run.

The course is mostly along the Ralston Creek Trail…it’s a plus since you can train on it before the actual race but it’s narrow at points so it can get crowded. There are a couple climbs throughout the race, so be aware. When I ran it in 2018, it was an extremely windy day. 3W Races generally puts on good races and this was no exception.

I almost want to give a second shoe to the course difficulty strictly because of the mid-morning heat at that time of year. The race is mostly on the Ralston Creek Trail, which is only partially shaded. Overall it’s a pretty flat course. The race coincides with the Arvada Harvest festival and parade so the finish line area is usually buzzing with activity. If you’re within a 20 minute drive and itching to do a small half marathon, I’d recommend it! If you’re a competitive runner who seeks to podium (aka not me) some of the shorter distances have smaller fields.
