I’ve run the Ventura full marathon twice and the half marathon once. This is a very well organized event. Great swag and medals. The course is very flat and very fast. Not much scenery really except at the finish. I like the straight out and back course. Very clean, new porta-potties at the starting line and at aid stations along the course. Very responsive race organizer for any email questions or concerns prior to race day. Lenient rules on changing to a different event distance or transferring your bib to another runner. Timing company was very responsive to an issue with my chip time.

I ran this race in 2012. The new course is better. Less congested. Beautiful scenery. Miles 11 to 17 were tough (rolling hills with some fairly steep downhill stretches). Prep your legs with lots of downhill training runs and strength training! Course aid stations were a little sparse. And never enough port-potties for desperate runners!! This was a major issue. When aid stations are spaced further apart then the race MUST provide like 6 or 7 porta-potties at each aid station. Not just 2! No runner wants to wait in line when they’re trying to achieve a BQ or PR. The last few miles through downtown Ventura are busy with traffic running parallel to the runners. Street is quite pitted and pot-holed.
