The scenery is absolutely gorgeous! They changed the route up a bit this year, and I thought it was even better! I hope they keep this route for next year as well. The medal this year was outstanding! Definitely better than last year’s. The running vest was a good idea for part of our swag, but it was just ok. The start of the race was a bit rough with a delay, and it was overcrowded at first, which is probably part of the reason why we had to go in waves, and was probably part of the delay, because runners couldn’t fit to line up, but it worked out overall. My overall opinion is that I always highly recommend this race. It’s one of my favorites that I continue to sign up for. I was glad the weather was absolutely perfect this year. I really enjoyed the set up at Cowell’s Commons as well.

Last several years, it’s been in the mid 30’s for temp at the start of the race, but tends to turn out to be absolutely beautiful, and feels nice to run in the cool temp. The scenery on this course is gorgeous! I love starting downtown, and then running through water works park, and Gray’s Lake area before returning downtown. I felt like there was quite a few water and Gatorade stations along the route this year. Not so many options for emergency bathroom break, if that is a concern. There wasn’t as many entertainment/live music stations as there used to be, if you really enjoy that during a race. The course is well marked, and just a few little hills here and there, but overall, I think it’s a pretty easy going, paved course. The coupons/perks for participants were good, if you’re paying attention to what is available/offered. The Expo was great this year that you can attend when picking up the race day packet. I would have to admit, the medal this year, was a bit disappointing compared to previous years, however…it was small, and not as flashy/pretty as usually they are. Was just kinda, eh. The shirt was ok. The socks that DMOS gave out at the Expo were the best! Overall, I love this race, and look forward to doing it every year! I got my kids in to the kids race, and they absolutely loved it! Great event, and very thankful to all the sponsors and volunteers. Highly recommend =)

This was my second time doing this race event and half marathon, and definitely recommend it to friends and family interested in trying this race. The course is absolutely beautiful, and for half marathoners, it’s a pleasantly flat course with some mild grade hills here and there. Plenty of hydration stations were scattered throughout the course, and options for porta potties sprinkled here and there during the course. I thought it was extra sweet they offered tissues to racers, because it was so dang cold that day! The jackets that participants received this year were absolutely awesome! Liked these way better than last year’s swag. Packet pick up went really smooth. I felt like signage was good throughout, so you didn’t get off course, and you always knew what mile you were on. My husband followed my progress with ease, using the IMT app, so that was really cool. The medal was pretty, and I’ll just cherish it, because I am proud of what I accomplished that day, so I’m not incredibly picky about that. My biggest complaint was where they decided to block the road for racers coming down Indianola Ave from the south…we ended up parking quite a long distance from the start of the race, and had to jog to the line up to make it in time. There was plenty of closer parking that was wasted, and it wasn’t like this last year. I’m afraid I didn’t stick around for the after party this year, because truth be told…I’m not a huge fan of cold weather =)

This was my very first half marathon, and I think I picked a good one! Most of the path was fairly flat or low grade inclines/declines. The scenery was gorgeous…I mean, can’t get much better than Iowa in the fall anyways. I thoroughly enjoyed the bands that were playing here and there along the way. Lots of aid stations, and WONDERFUL groups of people cheering you on, offering you water, gatorade, and energy gels. I got a real kick out of some of the signage I spotted along the route. I absolutely LOVE the long sleeved shirt that all runners received, and the medal you get at the finish line is gorgeous, and I’ll cherish it forever! I love that my spouse could track where I was on his phone while he waited for me, and catch me at different spots along the way. Finding parking at the event was no big deal, which was surprising and awesome. Just a great area to hold an event, extremely well organized from packet pick up to finish line and post party. I highly recommend this race, especially for any first time half or full marathoners. I thought it was fun the extra activities you could participate in, and how there was some options for your kiddos as well. Definitely something I plan to get my whole family involved in when my little boys get a bit older =) Thank you Des Moines!!
