I selected this race for my 50 states half for NC. The expo was conveniently located downtown near hotels, finish line, and shuttle for those coming from out of town. Small expo allowing for a quick bib pick up.

Race day transportation from downtown to the beach was simple and easy. Caught a beautiful sunrise waiting for the race to start. Ample bathrooms (waited ~5 mins right before race start).

Course was easy/flat and fun at the beginning and end, but a very boring stretch from ~6-11. Would have liked another aid station in the second half of the course.

The medal had the state of NC in it, which is great for my 50 states collection. The shirt was a cotton blend, so will be thrown straight into the donate pile.

The post race party had live music and decent food/beverage options. Was nice to cheer on the marathoners on the walk back to my hotel!

The course was great with varied scenery. It was a really neat to run through the space and rocket center and the botanical garden with the holiday display. The course had some hills, but nothing that was unmanageable or super long.

The medals were large and travel themed this year. The shirts were a cotton blend, not tech. This race gave a finisher gift, which was a seat cover this year.

I was worried about the number of aid stations prior to the race, but with the weather they were sufficient. There was a good selection of post race food and non alcoholic beverages (who knew boiled potatoes were a must have post race snack) but if you wanted a beer it needed to be purchased.

The finish line being inside was a cool experience. Overall a very fun and exceptionally well run race weekend.

I participated in the challenge (International Half, 5k, and 1 mile) and had a great time in Detroit. The 5k and 1 mile course did not overlap the half course, so it was nice to see different areas of the city. It was very neat to run across the Ambassador Bridge and return through the Detroit-Windsor tunnel. There was great crowd support even for slower runners, which is not always the case. With the exception of the bridge, there was minimal elevation gain. My only minor complaint on the swag is that all 3 medals were identical, with just the distance varied. The challenge medal was a turntable that actually spins!

Overall it was an exceptionally well run race with a fun and supported course. If I was local this would be on my calendar every year.

The course had beautiful scenery, but a very tough hill around mile 10. There was only a packet pickup without an expo, so it’s important to make sure you bring everything you need if traveling from out of town.

I am split on the quality of race swag. The medal was great, but the shirt is 100% cotton so it went directly into my donate pile. I was disappointed with the post race party. They ran out of beer/seltzer, so if you are toward the back/took a few minutes to stretch after you finish there may be nothing left. Overall it was an okay race, but not one that I would repeat.

This was a very well run race. There were ample aid stations offering water and/or electrolytes. There were a lot of entertainment stations located throughout the course. I do not remember the name of the group (perhaps cloggers?) but man those women brought the energy.

I am not a huge race fan, but the theming was great! Runners start your engines, green flags to start, and checkered flags galore near the finish chute. Stopping to kiss the bricks is definitely a unique race experience. The medals were nice, but the shirt was a weird non performance soft cotton (see through material) shirt that immediately went in the donate pile. I wish I would have looked more at the merchandise for purchase, as now I do not have any merch from the race.

Overall a great experience. If I was local I would definitely run this again.

I selected this race for my Texas half for 50 states half marathon and am very happy with my choice. The expo was located conveniently downtown, and had some vendors and photo ops. The race swag is top notch, with a long sleeved UnderArmor tech tee and assorted items from 3M.

The course is net downhill, with decent elevation loss. The scenery at the beginning was not my favorite, but the course went through some neighborhoods before ending downtown. The volunteers were very enthusiastic and the entertainment along the course was unique. One thing to note is that the course seemed more secure/closed than some other recent races I have run. Roads were blocked well, with support from law enforcement to allow for traffic to proceed safely.

There were a ton of photographers near the finish line, so I had a lot of great pictures taken. Photos were not included with race entry this year, so that would be an additional cost.

Overall, a very well produced race. If I was local, this would be a must do annually.

As someone who rarely repeats races, I cannot wait to run this one again. There is ample free parking near the start, as well as the option for race morning packet pickup. The course is fairly flat has varied scenery throughout (neighborhood, boardwalk, trail, etc). There were some parts that were narrow in the out and back, but only encountered minor issues with participants walking multiple people across. The post race party had great food and drink options, but was very crowded with many saving seats. Overall had a great time and will be back to run again (hopefully on a non rainy day).

This was an extremely well run race, from the confetti at the start all the way to the finish line. The half marathon course was a good mix of city, neighborhood, and green space (portion by the river). The beginning was hilly, but it seemed fairly flat for a good portion of the course. There were a lot of unofficial drink stops as well. I never thought l would do a fireball shotski during a race, but here we are! You are only on Route 66 for a short stretch, but you do pass by the Neon Sign Park. It was extremely cold at the start when I ran this in 2022 (in the 20s), but warmed up by the time I finished. If I was local, this would be an annual event for me.

I ran the half marathon in 2022. The course was shortened to approximately 12.6 miles, and the race has yet to inform participants/make an official announcement, outside of adding comments to those asking on social media posts.

The staging area for the half marathon was dark and did not have any hydration or an adequate amount of restrooms. The race started late, but those in further back corrals had no idea what was going on as the sound system was not set up in a manner that allowed us to hear anything.

There were adequate water stations on the course, but they did not have enough volunteers. I am the back of the pack and still had to wait at some stations for hydration. As mentioned above, the course was measured short starting at mile marker 9. The official results on race day indicated 13.1 miles, but now Athlink results have been updated to 12.6.

It is unacceptable that a race does not inform their participants that the course was shortened. I have yet to receive an email or any communication from Lifetime regarding this matter. I understand that things happen outside of their control, particularly with construction in the city. This was an issue they claim to have been aware of prior to the race via social media comments, but did not communicate prior to or after the event. Very unprofessional. I will not be running this, or any other Lifetime sponsored events.

The one positive is the swag. The medals are comically large, and the shirts were made of decent quality tech material.

This race was extremely well run, with lots of communication and information provided via email and race Facebook group. This night race was such a unique experience, especially at the beginning of the race when you see nothing but a sea of runners with various lights on them. It was a rather tough/hilly course, which really caught up with me on the second loop. Was almost a personal worst time for me, but it was really peaceful to be in the park at night with a clear sky full of stars. The medals in 2022 were handmade from a local ceramics shop, which I enjoyed. If you are a 50 states half or marathoner, look no further for your WV race.
