About Me

  • Running club(s):

    Lancaster Moms Run This Town

  • Rave race:

Cook Forest 25K or Rehoboth Beach Marathon

  • Race that's calling my name:

Chicago Marathon or Antelope Canyon Ultra

  • I run because:

It is one of the only things that I don’t seem to quit at.  I can push myself to new levels at the paces I need to be at and still belong to a group.  I LOVE trail running because it makes me feel ALIVE.

This race, while having a 3,000 runner limit between the half and full, has such a small town feel and lots of camaraderie. The FB page is both entertaining and informative. The race starts at the bandstand in Rehoboth and winds through town to Cape Henelopen where the marathoners peel off to Gordon’s Pond and continue to Lewes. At the 10 mile mark, the course winds back through the park and into Rehoboth to rejoin the half marathon course. It is a mix of road and rail trail packed cinder. Very scenic and very well run! The aid stations are about every 2 miles and well stocked. The last out and back even offers a DJ to get you amped up for your finish and the after party has more food than any other race I’ve done. The only issue I struggled with as a slower marathoner is being able to even get to the beer stand – by the time I finished, dancing was in full swing and the DJ and beer are located very close together. There is an inside, quieter option but I didn’t think my legs could take the stairs. PR for the course and I certainly will be back! The full is definitely much more beautiful and worth it. Both courses offer a 7 hour time limit for those that need the extra time and still want to be involved, which is awesome! The RD and crew always go out to run in the last runner. The finish line is also well organized and well stocked with volunteers to keep things moving.

1st 50k. Stephen (the RD) is amazing with communication & has become known in PA as one of the best RDs out there. The course was stupendously marked with pink ribbons, signs and arrows on the ground. There were 6 aid stations, stocked with just about anything you could imagine and 3 smiling faces. As far as swag, each runner got a full zip tech shirt, wicking hat and finishers received a growler. Great stuff! Timing was posted as live results page as well.

My friend turned 50 this year and we ran it to celebrate the milestone. We are certainly newbies and managed the course with a good bit of hiking. The trails proved to be challenging with rocky areas and a boulder field that you had to cross (duh…the name says it all). I would certainly recommend this race!

This was the first year for the event, but it easily seemed like a race that has been going on for years.
-Passionate RD
-Great aid stations with Tailwind, Honey Stinger, bananas, oranges, pretzels
-Quality swag with choice of short sleeved or tank tech and a finisher hat
-Great communication
-Well marked course
-Amazing scenery mixed with challenging elevation gains
-Race is great for new trail runners and old
This race sold out months before and will certainly be a race that sells out within weeks of opening. It is easy to jump on board since the RD is quick witted and answers questions quickly AND runs his own race to partake in the fun. All he wants is that others can “share his dirt”.

I ran the 3-Way Challenge as the first time running a race weekend such as this. We arrived Friday evening and went right to the expo to collect our bibs and gear. We found it easy to get our items and headed to the back of the expo for our shirts. That all went very smoothly and we were able to visit part of the expo before it closed.

Saturday morning we arrived for the 10k and smoothly checked our race bib for the 5k. Buses and the set-up was ingenious and all went smoothly for the drop off and pick up/drop off in between the 10k and 5k. Both races were heavily supported with aide stations and water and goodies along the course. It was nice to rerun sections of the first race without fully repeating all of it. Gear pick up after the 5k was a bit interesting. I think many of the volunteers that were there earlier in the day were no longer there. It seemed like maybe they just threw bags in the general area in between the races and there seemed to be some confusion at pickup with about 3-4 of the rows. But, the young man working the window was calm and polite despite people being not so polite. All in all, the bus idea beats the old UPS truck idea.

Our group was running the half in the morning. We got up for the walk from our hotel and arrive at the stadium to find what looked like mass confusion as people tried to funnel themselves to locate themselves in corrals C-I. Logistically, I know that the start line had to move for the half/full due to another event in town. If that were the case next year, I would suggest that the entrance to the stadium area on Elm Street be completely closed off and everyone be brought in from the other side of the stadium to avoid the chaos a bit. Or possibly have the corrals be slightly more narrow to allow more walking area as people walk down the side. It really was the only complaint for the kick off in the morning. The pyro was amazing as we went over the start line. The support on the course and music throughout was great! The sites were great and the reported hills were just as expected.

All in all, the race directors and volunteers did an amazing job and did not disappoint at all! The water stops were prevalent throughout and we felt very well supported. I would certainly recommend this race to many others. Cincinnati and Kentucky proved to really come through in the cheering departments too!
